My very first S&B post - be gentle...

I need a wardrobe update, but no longer seem to know where to shop. Long gone are the TopShop days, but I am not yet M&S Classics material either.

I know there is loads to choose from in between, but what are your favourite places when you realise all your tops are baggy from 12 months of breastfeeding and being yanked up and down you need a few new tops to go with your bootcut jeans and converse trainers OH THE SHAME!

If it makes a difference to the advice, I am size 14, hourglass figure (decent waist, huge norkage, reasonably wide hips). Not expecting a personal shopper though!

Next?
Joe Browns? (Catalogue & website normally, not in many shops.)
Boden?

Don't really know, am rather in the same boat tbh.

carrotsandcelery · 18/01/2012 13:53

Round here it is White Stuff, Fat Face & Boden. I think that is partly based on which shops are available to us though.

needabetternickname · 18/01/2012 13:53

Watching with interest... you sound as if you're in the same boat as me as I've gone from pregnancy to 12 months of breastfeeding back to pregnancy and now bf'ing again....would like to think I can be stylish again one day.

noddyholder · 18/01/2012 13:56

Gap Zara

FunnysInTheGarden · 18/01/2012 13:56

S&B is gentle Grin. I get my everyday stuff from The White Company, Jaeger, Planet, Great Plains, some M&S ranges but avoiding Per Una Grin, Esprit, occasionally Monsoon and Next. I am a size 14/16 and find these ranges fit well.

FunnysInTheGarden · 18/01/2012 13:58

Depends on your age too btw. I am 41 and prefer simple classic type clothes.

dexter73 · 18/01/2012 14:57

I like Uniqlo. Very good basics at a good price and decent quality.

Bunbaker · 18/01/2012 16:35

The last few items of clothes I have bought tended to be from Gap, Debenhams or Wallis, although I bought a pair of treggings from M & S yesterday. Next clothes aren't made for my shape - small waist to hips, M & S classic is for old ladies and their current Per Una offering is simply horrid.

I have never considered Fat Face before, but seeing recommendations on here made me look at their website and I liked what I saw.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/01/2012 16:46

Fat Face, Wallis (hit and miss), Phase 8, White Company, Debenhams.

Dawndonna · 18/01/2012 16:50

Love Fat Face for casual, Phase 8 for dressing up, Gap for jeans.

Fregley · 18/01/2012 17:59

NO NO NO to fatface shit.
makes women look so dreary and baggy

im with NODDY

TracyK · 18/01/2012 18:09

Mint Velvet, House of Fasers, Great Plains.

JoinTheDots · 18/01/2012 18:58

Thank you everyone - I shall be checking all those sites to see what I can find. I really want to look more like a Yummy Mummy at the toddler groups rather than the one with a streak of snot on her baggy old faded jumper (toddler snot, not mine, I have some standards).

How about Oasis ?

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2012 19:27

If you've just stopped bf then I'd start wearing the most bf unsuitable clothes you can find Smile

So for me after several years of bf and pregnancy - I just couldn't bear to wear another jersey breton top with a cardigan.

I love wearing blouses/shirts with jeans over a thermal vest at the moment - there's loads around - I wear quite a lot of silk ones at the moment and am a SAHM. Nothing dry clean only though.

And I bet you can still shop in topshop - I think their jeans are the best on the high street and they have the odd nice top.

Zara is variable I think - quality is an issue but the odd thing is amazing like my navy wool/cashmere mix coat.

M&S ltd collection and autograph also have the odd thing. H&M and New Look also worth a look for bargains.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/01/2012 19:56

Fatface make children's clothes in adult's sizes imho. Next is dreadful - an explosion in a rainbow factory. Joe Brown's teenagey and poor quality.

Gap or Oasis for jeans for curves - not bootleg though.
Basic t-shirts from M&S Autograph, M&S Limited, Warehouse, Hobbs, The White Company.
Jersey dresses from The White Company or Vivienne Westwood (sales).
Fantasie bras for huge norkage.
Work skirts from Vivienne Westwood (sales) or pencil skirts from M&S Autograph.

Dinner ready - will pop back later if I can think of more!

mewkins · 18/01/2012 20:41

Gap for jeans, trousers and jumpers
H&M for good basic tops with a bit of stretch in them.
M&S limited, indigo and autograph for skirts and some skinny jeans, etc
White Stuff and fatface sometimes (only sale stuff) for casual skirts and tunics
Great plains for some jumpers or the odd dress
Zara for smarter skirts and trousers as they are nice and long
Next and Monsoon are the wrong shape for me. Really recommend gap.eu though as there are always good reductions and really fast standard delivery.

GeorginaWorsley · 18/01/2012 21:14

I like some Boden,plain stuff though,Phase Eight,Great Plains,Mint velvet,White Company,occasional White Stuff,Kew,Autograph.
I like boutique brands such as Avoca,Noa Noa,Nougat etc also.

Jessicaalbastwin · 18/01/2012 21:18

I like New Look and Next for everyday wear.

southeastastra · 18/01/2012 21:22

zara toshops (some fab stuff online) m and s limited edition la redoute

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/01/2012 21:24

H&M for cheapo cotton jackets for work and for the occasional really nice scarf.

Hobbs outlet for jackets.

Warehouse for silk camisoles and dresses (although nowhere near as good as they used to be - it's all quite shapeless recently).

BikeRunSki · 18/01/2012 21:24

Joe Brown is eeeeewwww almost entirely polyester,
I like White Stuff, bt also have a Google on Mistral,Seasalt, Saltwater and Ness.

southeastastra · 18/01/2012 21:29

these \link{http://www.joules.com/en-GB/2/Women-Sweatshirts/c01c01.r16.1\joules} tops are like toddler wear Grin

JoantheFennel · 18/01/2012 21:31

Great Plains and French connection

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/01/2012 21:35

Trying to imagine those Joules tops on my size 12 41 year old 32Es - it is really not a pretty image. They are vile.
