Wedding Dress <twirl>

DP and I are considering a wedding this year and were going to go to the registry office in clothes we already have and then be done with it.

Unfortunately I have accidentally fallen on the internet a lot and the plans are rather more elaborate than when we started Grin but here is the thing: I have vaguely Indian heritage and would love to be able to give it a nod. I think if we are going to have a reception I want the colours to be jewel colours that you would unconsciously associate with Indian things, like hot pink, deep purple, oranges and reds etc.

I desperately want a wedding dress that is Indian inspired. I still want to keep white/cream/ivory as the colour, but the detailing and/or the cut etc I want to hint at my heritage.

I don't have a massive budget at all, and hope to be a size 10/12 in my wedding dress. Please help!

How Indian would you want it to be?

Very much indeed

Quite Indian

A hint of embroidery and colour

One-shoulder drapey like a sari

(these aren't necessarily for sale, they just came up when I googled "Indian white wedding dress)

Eek, no stomach baring for me! So the first one is out - although it is beautiful

I love the second one and the last one on the left. THe middle one with the red on I really don't like as it just looks a bit... I don't know. Not for me.

I think the problem comes when I try and consider my bust, as it is very large and while I don't want my knockers out every where, I would like a hint of decolletage if that makes sense, so although the second one is probably my favourite, that rules it out.

I really do love the last one, on the left. Is it always more expensive to get a dress made than to buy one? How easy would it be for a very very amateur sewer to make their own dress?

Not if you were planning on buying a really expensive one

Not very easy

Grin that just made me snort like a pig at my desk. Luckily I am on my own!

I am not a wedding dress expert - hopefully some people will be along soonish to help figure out where you could find a dress that's actually for sale.

You could wear a ivory / whatever chiffon sari. Ridiculously elegant and wont cost a fortune either.
Add colours in your bouquet / flowers in your hair / jewellery.

This is beautiful but you might want to wear a white plain dress of some kind underneath if you don't want to show your midriff.

Monga's in Southall London will make English style wedding dresses incorporating indian fabrics, some styles they do as standard here.
