colour matching help!

I'm looking for inspiration from all you style guru's. I had my colours done last year and am still trying to implement my new colours into my life. I'm trying to work up a list of matching colours that look brilliant with my new colours so that I can easily piece together various items in my warbrobe to resemble decent outfits.

Please can you let me know if you wear any of these colours and if you do what do you coordinate them with to really make the best of the colour?

Ones I am struggling with are:-

Mint Green
Lemon
Teal
Raspberry
petrol blue
cornflower blue

I'm finding that I'm sticking to my base colours of Navy blue, beige (stone / cream) and brown quite a lot because I'm a bit scared of getting it wrong with the other colours.

Isn't the idea of the color analysis that all your colors go together, at least in theory?
To avoid looking like a peacock, stick to one or two of your neutrals and one of your bright accent colors at each wear. (All colors on your list sound more or less like accent colors). Boring example: navy trousers, beige cardigan, a scarf with teal/raspberry... Google around, there are lots of style sites that give you more rules.

I don't think it's best practice to put all your colours together like you say but I'm looking for colour combinations that really pop togehter.

Like I tried a raspberry coloured dress on yesterday and was quite surprised to see that a charcole grey cardigan I had also picked up went really well with it - however when I tried it on this morning with a light grey cardigan I own it looked rubbish.

A friend of mine also recently wore a navy dress with a peace cardigan which again are 2 colours which I would never have thought of putting together but looked brilliant.

Could I ask, what company did your colours and what season are you?

sweetheart · 16/01/2012 22:18

I think it was house of colours - I'm a clear, light, cool (I think) which is the same as summer

Ok, I'm a summer too so that helps. Did you not get a booklet- a white one I think that had colour combination suggestions in it? Perhaps ask your consultant lady if you don't have 1. I know HOC usually suggest 3 colours together in an outfit for summers, and Colours of similar intensity rather than a high contrast dark navy with white for example which would be better for winters. So, your raspberry dress looked good with a stronger darker grey. A stone or beige dress would not look best with a strong colour, but with other paler more muted colours. Make sure the stones and beiges that you pick do not have yellow tones in by the way, so many do. Hope that's helpful in some way!

Hmm, yes, too many colours could easily equal crazy bag lady!

sweetheart · 17/01/2012 11:54

I can just about coordinate 2 colours - I have no hope of getting a 3rd in the mix! Ekkkk!

I had my colours done in Sept and the wearing 3 colours thing was terrifying to me too. Being a Spring my colours are warm and bright so I was VERY worried about the CBEEBIES presenter look. But....I have to say that if you can find a way to make it work for you it definitely makes a huge difference and its true that if you stick to your palette you cant go wrong. I wear 2 colours in my clothes and add a third with either a scarf or jewellery. So so easy, not scary, and I can see my eyes stand out so much more and my complexion looks better. For me at least, scarves and jewellery are the answer to the 3rd colour thing. (And cheap) If I get dressed without adding that 3rd colour now, I feel something is missing

I agree you should have had more info from your consultant. SOunds like you went to Colour Me Beautiful as they do the clear/light/cool stuff, HoC just do Seasons (with subcategories within each eg. deep summer, sweet pea summer etc) Id email and ask for a bit of advice/support. I know plenty of girls who have asked their consultant loads of advice after the event

You need to make a bit of a leap of faith with this colours business. But its so worth it

sweetheart · 17/01/2012 13:25

yes could have been colour me beautiful. My consultant didnt actually say anything about wearing 3 colours - she herself was only wearing 2.

Oh, I feel even more lost now! It's nearly a year since I had it done so don;t really feel I can call her back up now and ask things.
