Natural hair dye?

Anyone use or know about natural hair dyes?

I'm recovering from cancer and am having a total overhaul of diet, exercise, what I put on my skin etc. I know cosmetics and hair dye are tested for carcinogens and are passed as safe, but I still want to go as natural as poss after my recent experiences.

Also the last time I did a home dye the patch test showed a faint pinkness. I went ahead with no problem other than getting a sensitive top lip afterwards which I know from other things is a sign of mild irritant/allergy with me. So dyeing with my normal Garnier/L'Oreal is not going to be an option now.

I was a natural blonde till my early twenties, then went dirty blonde and so I brightened it up with dye, and now I'm late forties and have lots more grey!

Is it too much of an ask to cover grey "naturally"? Is there a natural product I can rinse through that will enhance the remaining dirty blonde that is there? TIA.

You could try Naturtint (health food shops).. they have semis and permanents but do have small amounts of PDPs which is what most people react to. Or try ebay/amazon for henna, although have never tried blonde shades..?!

No blonde henna. I think some people use buxus? not sure -- as I use henna & indigo to go dark.

hennaforhair has a great forum on different mixes people use to naturally colour their hair.

Yes, I want to try to avoid the PDPs having had a slight reaction already.

I'll have a look at hennaforhair at greater depth tomorrow - thanks. Did I remember right that you can't use hairdye once you've used henna, though?

Daniel Field Watercolours do still have a small amount of PDP's.
Otherwise a great product though, my hair is in much better condition than when I was using box dyes or even salon colours & no more burning scalp!

Thanks all. The Daniel Field product is so nearly what I'm after but I can't see where the ingredients are listed on the website, although in the blurb it does say that anyone who is allergic to PDPs will have a problem with his product.

So probably not appropriate sadly.

After a bad experience with salon hair dyes, I now use Surya henna cream - you can buy it on Amazon. I've not used their blonde colours, but their browns are really good, and they do cover grey.

I haven't tried this but saw it linked elsewhere

good luck with everything
