searching for facial moisturisers - both day cream and night cream

ThatVikRinA22 · 15/01/2012 20:47

i have pots and pots of creams that arent any good and im sure its now becoming a false economy to buy the cheapest in Tescos!

i use No7 protect and perfect serum but i need a decent day cream, a night cream and possibly an eye cream aswell now....
Before i go and buy any more i thought i would consult the wisdom of MN.
My skin type is combination but sensitive.
Im 40 next month.

thanks!

what budget?

thenightsky · 15/01/2012 20:59

I use No7 in the mornings and massage in bio-oil at night. I reckon my skin looks ace for my age (50th decade)

JustAnother · 15/01/2012 21:01

I am 41, combination skin and I love Elemis Marine Cream.

Jessicaalbastwin · 15/01/2012 22:01

Another vote for Elemis Marine Cream, I am 30. I also use the Elemis oxygenating night cream which is gorgeous.

frankie76 · 15/01/2012 22:15

I like origins white tea

2ndtimeblues · 15/01/2012 22:18

I use the Olay range. It's okay. Not too expensive or at least some part of the range is always on special offer.

ThatVikRinA22 · 15/01/2012 22:56

keep em coming....

budget - nothing tooooo extortionate, how much is the elemis?

OP posts:
ThatVikRinA22 · 15/01/2012 22:58

Clinique 3 step thingy. Skin never been better Smile

Tranquilidade · 15/01/2012 23:02

I have tried allsorts of all different prices yet still prefer the Nivea range!

ThatVikRinA22 · 15/01/2012 23:05

clinique was too harsh for my skin - i tried it.

i use a lovely cleanser and toner from my beautician - its a Sothys one, the day cream was about £50 though and i stopped short at that....

vicar Elemis is fairly pricey - the smaller one being around the £85 mark (at least it was when I last bought it myself...over a year ago).

I use Clarins and it is about £40 a pot and lasts for ages - they do the usual ranges for different skin types and offer day and night creams.

My DSIS uses Jurlique - the day cream costs around £40 and she says it lasts her for ages.

yellowraincoat · 15/01/2012 23:09

Which Clinique one did you try? I hated Dramatically Different but really liked the Moisture Surge one.

jellybeans · 15/01/2012 23:10

Mid 30s, use Aldi Lacura (used to use Boots P&P). My skin is fantastic since I have used it. Plus it is dirt cheap! I use the serum, day and night creams and eye roller/cream. Trials have shown it is very effective!

ThatVikRinA22 · 15/01/2012 23:12

oh right - one day in the not tooooo dim and distant future i may be able to justify a spend of £85 on a face cream but not just yet im afraid!

the clinique i tried was the 3 step thing but yes it was dramatically different moisturiser - didnt know they did different ones.

now i love clarins stuff - i wonder if i could find a nice one from there....i think id better go and get some advice though before i buy.

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 15/01/2012 23:28

Definitely Clarins - good advice from their counters usually, and plenty of samples. Also starting a promotion at H. of Fraser next week.

Have been using them as my main products for many years and get lots of compliments on my skin. (I do drink masses of water and take fish oil too).

ThatVikRinA22 · 15/01/2012 23:32

I have very even tempered skin and have been told that it is in excellent condition. I have also never used an expensive moisturiser.

In the past I have used: Bodyshop vitamin E, Olay, Garnier, l'Oreal, Boots P & P and Vie products. All of them have suited my skin so now I buy whatever is on special offer at the time. Next time I go to Aldi I am going to try the Lacura as I have heard good reports about it.

I think that unless you have very sensitive skin you don't need to spend stupid amounts of money on creams.

ohbugrit · 15/01/2012 23:39

Olay every time, not greasy, cheap, smells OK, skin is happy.

Iatemyskinnyperson · 16/01/2012 00:19

I like La Roche Posay. I use the hydraphase one- have dry skin. About £12 I think?

Think I would like to try Caudalie when I get around to saving up some spare cash.

ChiefPotterer · 16/01/2012 11:39

The Olay one in the red pot - 3 point serum or something?, my lovely MIL got me this for xmas and I can honestly say it has made my wrinkles appear less obvious and my make up goes on beautifully, I haven't liked a face cream as much in yonks.

ChiefPotterer · 16/01/2012 11:39

Think its about £30 but is always on offer in chemists. Would def recommend giving it a go.

jellybeans · 16/01/2012 12:10

Yep the cheap Aldi store. Several of my friends and relatives of varying ages use it too with great results. I have excema and sensitive skin and it is fine. The serum is very simelar to Boots P&P and the day/night cream are fantastic- either £2 or £3 a jar! I gave up with expensive creams when I found this. You can get it from ebay I think if you wanted to try some.

MrsDollyLevi · 16/01/2012 12:37

Another one here for the Olay 3 Point. I use the serum. Lovely. Boots often have deals on it too. Let's put it this way, when I can't afford it and buy something cheaper..... I can see the difference.

dingdong3 · 16/01/2012 13:47

Another vote here for La Roche Posay - particularly for the Summer time. Their SPF is really gentle. During the winter, I use Neal's Yard Frankincense Hydrating Cream by day. All year round at night, I use Neal's Yard Orange Flower facial oil. Love, love, love it!

Both of these companies are paraban free, which is a big consideration for me. N Yard of course are free of everything chemical but I just don't think their sun cream cuts the mustard, so that's why I do the La Roche P stuff in Summer time.
