I've just had my hair cut so it's now just past shoulder length with long layers and a full fringe. I've tried my bbh and it made its a static mess, my hair is naturally wavy if left to air dry so I assumed it would make it glossy and wavy :( please give me your best bbh tips before I end up flogging it on eBay :(

What works for me - put plenty of mousse in at the roots, and get a pair of sectioning clips from Boots to divide your hair up into smaller sections while you're drying, starting at the back. If you try to dry big hanks of hair at once, the strands at the outer edges will tangle.

If you want bigger curls, put some Velcro rollers in while it cools down - the BBH will smooth/dry your hair, but the rollers will create the curl.

make sure your hair's 80% dry before you start.

It does take a bit of practice though. I could never do a brush/hair dryer blow dry, but can achieve something not far off a trainee salon do now with the BBH.

Mine too Stella! I've given up now!

Well I'm going to have to try it again later when I wash my hair, I've found my sectioning clips and nabbed dd1's mousse. Fingers crossed!

My hairstyle and type sound the same as yours and I love my bbh, it just takes practice. The advice upthread is good tho I don't use mousse. Most helpful thing for me in how to use it was youtube tutorials. Can't link as i'm on my phone but do have a look at them.

Yes about to say youtube tutorials. Mine looks lovely immediately after doing it, but is bit rubbish after couple of hours :(

I had to practise once or twice, but got hang of it eventually and am hugely cack-handed. The tutotial I looked at said to divide hair into small sections, then starting at the top, and going straight in with the brush already twirling, was the key. So, i get a bit of hair, brush it through, then set the brush to twirling mode, go in at the top, brush down the the bottom, then let it twirl back up with the hair round it iyswim, then turn the twirl off and let it sit for a second or two (so it's acting like a heated roller), then press reverse twirl to undo it. Does that make any sense at all?!

Ooh thanks for the tips, I'll have a look at YouTube for some tutorials too :)

What works for me is that I:

  1. use the hairdryer to get most of the wetness out.
  2. Section my hair
  3. Use the BBH curled under. Then use the BBH as if to flip curl out, and then do it to flip under again. I have to get the lock of hair from both top and bottom to avoid the frizz.
  4. Make sure it is 100% dry, even at the roots.

Does that make sense? I've been using moroccan oil and BBH for about 6 months now and my hairdresser couldn't get over the difference in my hair. It is so much healthier and better looking than it ever has been. It is one of my favourite objects of all time.

This is the youtube tutorial that helped me when I first got mine - there seems to be loads of tutorials on there now!

marking place - DD has waist length hair and i couldnt get it right with hers at all....

ThatVikRinA22 · 16/01/2012 18:15

btw - i love it for my hair! section it off, start at the bottom, i do mine in about 3 layers. i do mine from wet, but its not very long and is very fine.

use the right products on the hair first.
