Need to find a foundation for teenager

3littlefrogs · 15/01/2012 11:20

Can anyone recommend a nice light foundation for teenage skin that is prone to eczema and acne? Sad

Liquid would be best, because getting the shade right is a real challenge, and I think we will end up mixing 2 shades.

We have tried a few different brands/types, but could do with some advice if anybody has experience.

TIA

I would go for an oil free tinted moisturiser. Premium brands tend to offer much more in the way of shade choices. I would go for either MAC Studio Moisture Tint, Bobbi Brown Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser, or Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser, all of which come in a wide range of shades. Even though these are tinted moisturisers they all offer a reasonable level of coverage.

If she is looking to cover blemishes then invest in a concealer as well - MAC have some good choices such as Pro Longwear and Studio Finish concealer. In general it's better to just spot conceal the areas that need it, rather than try to cover everything with a foundation.

HTH.

I got my DD a Miss Sporty one, it has anti bacterial stuff (?) and has a nice coverage, you'd hardly notice it but it covers the spots well. I actuall got it for a pound in a discount shop but Superdrug sells it.

I would go for lily lolo. Have a look at the website. Mineral foundation is undoubtedly the best thing for teenagers. It's excellent for covering spots, absorbs oil and doesn't exacerbate acne or eczema. Also good for shade marching is that you can get lots of samples cheaply to try.

ggirl · 15/01/2012 12:47

I agree , try a mineral makeup. won't clog pores

shesparkles · 15/01/2012 12:49

Either mineral, or I ended up taking my teen to Clinique and getting some of that- I was fed up of the Tango look as much as anything!

c0rnsilllk · 15/01/2012 12:57

are you near to a spaceNK? They will be able to recommend a suitable foundation.

I am using an almay one - think it's called nearly naked. Was using bare escentuals which broke me out but my acne prone skin seems to love this. V light coverage but if you pop it on with a brush it's probably medium coverage
Not the easiest to get hold of - usually on eBay or my local Market sells it on a stall for £4 Grin

StellaAndFries · 15/01/2012 13:26

I also recommend Almay, but I use the mineral foundation in the brush dispenser, this one.

Also I tried No17's BB cream in boots yesterday and was very impressed, it's only £4.99 on the website at the moment too.

This is really helpful

ajandjjmum · 15/01/2012 13:43

DD uses the Clinque anti-blemish stuff. Looks far better than the crap she used to wear!

GnomeDePlume · 15/01/2012 13:48

DD1 (16, prone to acne) recommended Boots Natural Collection tinted moisturiser.

ChiefPotterer · 15/01/2012 14:36

I second the Lily Lolo and have actually just started a topic on this subject!. Excellent stuff lovely light coverage and suitable for v sensitive skin I would imagine it would be just perfect for sensitive, spotty teenage skin. Also leaves no tidemarks which may happen to the 'inexperienced' make-up wearer with ordinary liquid foundation.

3littlefrogs · 15/01/2012 14:48

Thank you so much everybody. I will show her this thread and she can do some research. I thought mineral makeup would be good, but we trailed round Boots and couldn't find anything.

I would highly recommend BareMinerals their foundation is amazing and so light and cos it's natural it shouldnt irritate her skin.
If you have a debenhams, house of fraser's or Fenwicks nearby just pop in with your daughter and they'll do a free trial and show her how to apply it.
It is expensive but if you buy the starter kit you'll save a fortune.

MadamTwoSwords · 15/01/2012 14:57

I am still prone to spots and use Lily Lolo mineral foundation.
Vichy dermablend concealer is good for spot coverage too. You can get it in the bigger Boots stores.

MadamTwoSwords · 15/01/2012 15:04

I would also advise to be careful of Bare Minerals as it contains bismuth which can irritate skin.
It caused me to break out into nasty big spots

DeeCrepitude · 15/01/2012 15:30

Barbara Daly oil free foundation and concealer at Tesco is good.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/01/2012 15:32

Was going to suggest the garnier BB Cream. I wanted to buy some for my dds but unfortunately the lightest shade is still far too dark for them. Will have a look at the No 17 one. No 7 also have one out now but the lightest shade is even darker than the Garnier one.

At the moment they are both using Boots Natural Collection ones. They are quite light (avoiding the Oompa Lumpa look) and a re v v cheap.

I love Nivea tinted moisturiser, really nice on my skin and you can layer it to shade. Also use Benefit's High Beam on my cheek bones for a bit of gleam
