Mine tends to just go for the scarecrow look (Helped by having had it tied up occasionally, the bits breaking off, so she has a halo effect when she stands in sunlight ).

No advice, just pleased that its not just mine that looks like it - everywhere I go I see these kids either with their hair immaculately in position, or with it tied back (and them not yanking it out saying "No mummy no!")

my two-year-old daughter has slightly wavy hair that is well past her shoulders w/a fringe. she also refuses to wear it up or let me put in grips, clips or alice bands.

i just have to tuck it behind her ears.

drives me crazy b/c her hair is SO lovely!

My 2yr old DD tends to favour the dragged through a hedge backwards look atm. She'll just about suffer me to put it up with a chorus of 'ow ow ow mummy hurts ' (I don't even use a brush as it's so curly so a bit of amateur dramatics methinks!)but it doesn't stay there for long. I find that just tying the sides up at the top last longest though, probably as it's harder for them to reach....

CountessDracula · 17/01/2006 16:55

My dd has a mad crazy beautiful mop of gold curls that is totally untameable. I am trying to grow it long but it's just getting bigger and bigger!

Am determined to persevere as it will look so amazing when it is long, also best and most acceptable time to look like a deranged scarecrow is under 5 I figure

I get stopped everywhere I go with her with people saying how fab it is!

mythumbelinas · 17/01/2006 16:58

two sections up top, two low bunches .. use the soft bands or let them pick some pretty ones.
when dd2's hair grew enough to be tied, 10m, i loosely tied it up and took pics to show her. She didn't like it so much at first, but found she preferred tying up or low bunches either side, to clips. Friends and family, when they saw her, would say how cute she looked and dd2 loved it .. no probs tying up her hair now. At the mo she is sick (her b'day this week too!) and it's been good to tie her hair back for when she throws up :S

I take the front section and twist and clip it so she doesn't look like a cockatoo

i have 4 bottles of Johnson's Junior detangling spray dotted around the flat and two Denman brushes I chase her round w/twice a day.

It's easier to get her to brush her teeth than her hair, which is gorgeous.

I'm jealous.
Your 2 year olds have hair?!!
DD still definitely on the bald side. Had first haricut a week or so ago because was becoming rather mullet like.

motherinferior · 17/01/2006 22:43

DD2 varies between looking like a curly angel and like a middle-aged male academic. If you know what I mean. Even her doting uncle agreed recently that she could do with a saggy corduroy jacket.

ntt · 17/01/2006 23:01

My (much) younger sis with thick unruly (ginger) wavy hair used to like me doing french plaits in her hair - it was the only thing that would keep it down - two worked better than one when her hair was bob length. Then she grew it long and it became easier to tie up.

My dd tends to go for a kind of 'surfer chic messy' look, it's quite long though so I can start to plait it which keeps it neat - It does help that dd1 wears hers like this to keep the nits at bay! She does keep them in too!

waterfalls · 18/01/2006 20:59

My dts have just turned 2 and have hair that is almost to their elbows, if I put a ponytail in they pull it out, if I put 2 ponytails in they pull them out, they aslo pull out grips and headbands, on the brightside they never seem to pull out plaits and they stay put all day, I usually do 2 plaits just behind their ears.

twirlaround · 20/01/2006 10:39

Blow drying it would really help if that is an option

Is her hair thick? This gives you more options!

Try taking her along when you have your hair cut and ask your stylist for some ideas?

Do the bug busting programme - here is where you get the kits!
This will make visits to the hairdresser worry free!

bug busting

Once you have started the bug busting programme you won't be passing them on any more. Even better, get your school to adopt it and then you won't get them much in the first place. It really does work

LemonTart · 22/01/2006 10:22

My DD1 looked like this around that age. We let it grow a bit and the heavier it was, the straighter it fell. Now it has thicken up and shoulder length it goes under just fine.
I know exactly what you mean about clips and things. I took her to claire?s accessories (I hate that place..) and let her choose some clips and alic bands. She did let me put these ones in her now and again - but if she remembered they were there, out they would come.
I have been known even to put a little hair mousse in it before parties an blow dry it under out of frustration as she is so pretty but her hair looked dreadful..
Take comfort that you are clearly not alone
