Hi all
had an unfortunate accident last weekend at home whilst cooking and hot oil from the pan spattered onto my face and um i suppose you would call it decolletage .. it blistered immediately - I ve been applying burn ointment i had here in the house first aid kit (flamozil ) and dressing but the dressing dried out a bit and as i changed it today i took the layer of skin off the top of it .....sheesh...SORE ...
anyhow have peoper dressing on it now but it s sore. What can i use - I scar easily and dont want to be left with bad scar ... any recomendations please... :=(

You poor thing! I'm flinching just reading that.

Aloe Vera is v good for helping prevent scar tissue, get some 100% aloe vera gel and apply a couple of times a day (maybe check with doc if it's ok to do this while the skin is still raw?).

I think Bio Oil might help you too... Ouch!

MrsCampbellBlack · 13/01/2012 22:20

heal gel

Tranquilidade · 13/01/2012 22:21

Second the vaseline suggestion. Think they use this in hospitals.

Beamur · 13/01/2012 22:23

I'd say Bio oil too - plus once it is healed, if there is a mark you can get scar reducing plasters

Was the Elizabeth Arden cream not originally used for burns victims?

henrythecat · 13/01/2012 22:27

Disclaimer: Not a medical expert but very clumsy and always getting kitchen burns

You say you have ripped the top layer of skin has come off? I wouldn't be putting any type of cream on the burn, it would only encourage infection imo which will delay healing and increase possibility of scarring. I'd keep it very clean, exposing it to the air as much as you can to dry out. I find minimising sun exposure reduces scarring. Maybe bio-oil once healed?

And...invest in an apron Grin

thanks for the replies
it s a bit ouch alright Sad but have had horrendous week overall so luckily (?) I ve been distracted from it!

I dont intend on putting any cream on it at the moment - have jelonet and dressing on it going to leave it for a few days ... once it s dry though I want to do as mucha s i can as i seem to scar so easily and it s right on the top of my boob ie if i wore a tank top in summer ot would be seem etc ... ok not the end of the world but if i can minimise it i will try.

Thanks for the tips!

I was going to recommend the Elizabeth Arden Miracle Cream - DS managed to burn me on my face when he lifted a hot splatter guard off the frying pan while we were cooking and it definitely helped my scar go quicker...

canyou · 13/01/2012 22:38

Vaseline [had 2 second degree burns] or if you can get hold of a tea tree gel, that is great and soothing and infection prevention.
TBH Go to a chemist there are loads of over the counter products that may help. I will check my work bag and see what I have in it can you tell it is a regular occurrence

7ti25 yes it was recommended to me by a DR at the burns clinic it is good but expensive, it did not go far as I had a 6% body burn and it needed loads of cream.

1sttimeBlondie · 13/01/2012 22:45

Elizabeth arden 8 hour cream is miraculous!

canyou · 13/01/2012 22:45

Mine were always creamed and dressed twice a day I was at home so hosp in the morning and did it myself got DP to do it at night so I would say RingerGrunt is right, I had the most beautiful new skin after but I am paranoid about tanning and used complete block to help healing for years after

theseventhdwarf · 13/01/2012 23:17

7ti and ringer - are you taking about 8 hour cream?
I m willing to invest because I really want to minimise scar as much as I can.
Thanks again everybody for the replies. X

Sudocreme - it works on anything!

theseventhdwarf · 14/01/2012 12:36

And yes I m clumsy in the kitchen - regularly have silly cuts of burns from the over shelf or something! need a butler and personal chef
