getting rid of long hair!

i have grown my hair past shoulder length for the past few years, knowing that time was nearly up for flowing locks (44 next birthday). I am fed up of ponytails and am going to have most of it of on Wednesday. Want something a bit shaggy/wash and go, based on a bob, probably chin length or a wee bit longer but not down to shoulders. Hair is quite thick and dark auburn, going a little grey in parting so have a half head od reddish highlights twice a year ATM.
Anyone seen any flatterring do's on celebs my age recently?

PS. I am a low maintenance kind of gal!

Don't do it! I use to have long hair about 4 years ago, have been trying to grow it back, but with all the colouring and straightening since, i have had to kept having a lot of 'trims' - a good few inches off each time! I am so determined to grow my hair this year, no more colouring for me!

It doesn't matter what age you are, you can still have long hair, i'm 39 soon & can't wait to have my long ponytail back! Whenever i see a woman with long hair i'm sooo jealous! And sounds like have a gorgeous colour too!

Why don't you just have a trim, or a fringe if you haven't got one,or a few layers first(not too short as they are hard maintenance as i found out!), before you go for the chop?

Don't do it! I bet the people encouraging you to get the chop are secretly jealous of your luscious long locks ha ha!

Good luck, whatever you decide!

Now I will say Go For It. I am exactly the same age as you.... And also have a bit grey ( but my husband says I am the only one who can see it). I now have a bob just above shoulder but I am going to get it chopped to chin length soon. I generally alternate between having long hair (mid back) and very very short. I guess I am lucky it grows quickly and the mid growing out stage is a bit of a pain but I find it a real mood lift to dramatically change my hair. I would probably keep it short but it is so much higher maintenance (ironically) as it is thick and so goes out of shape more quickly.

A bob can be prefect and low maintenance if that is nit your thing. What you need is an hairdresser who gives it a really good shape so you can do very little if you wish.

I have had short hair before (post baby hair fallout) and it was seeing old photos of me with good short cuts the other day that made me realise how frumpy my look is at the moment, I rarely look well groomed. i grew it long in a fit of nostalgia for my lost youth, but i have realised that girlish hair only goes with a girlish face. Sad.

Lop it off.......it is So liberating......my hair was long, dry and frazzled after growing it over the last few years.....but now short.....much cooler and everyone says it takes years off me xxx

How about having a layered cut that's long enough to tie back if you want to, but not so long that it's heavy and curtain-ish? A good layered cut lasts ages if it's the right shape to start with.
