Lipstick... but not a lipstick?

Thanks to MN I am gradually looking more 'done' when I leave the house (Babyliss Big Hair and BB cream is working brilliantly Smile) but something still isn't right (yesterday I dragged DP into the bathroom as I was staring in the mirror in disgust and asked him "what's wrong with my face?")

I think it is the lack of lipcolour, but I'm verrrrrry pale so traditional lipsticks don't really work for me, lipglosses drive me mad because my hair gets stuck to them, and lipbalm just isn't 'enough'. So.... come on ladies of MN, what do I need? Low maintenance lip solutions needed please!

Yes definitely the rose tinted vaseline.

I use a bit of subtle lip pencil first and top it off with vaseline. Lasts ages, isn't sticky and looks nicely natural - especially if you're pale like me.

Agree about Benetint. Makes your lips wet then too dry. Added to which, it has a flavour - well it's probably just sugar - so you can't help having a little lick, then it's gone!
Also it creeps instantly into any fine lines you have above your top lip from making catsbumface
Consequently I have a nearly full bottle here if anyone wants it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/01/2012 22:27

Truly - try it on your cheeks before you give it away! I got a tiny pot free with a magazine and I love the slightly doll-faced look it gives to cheeks.

Tranquilidade · 08/01/2012 22:31

Bobbi Brown cream blusher can also be used on lips. I am also pale and find using the same colour for both cheeks and lips gives a nice natural effect

trulyscrumptious43 · 08/01/2012 22:33

Thanks Remus....however I have naturally coloured cheeks - wow that sounds weird doesn't it - what I mean is that I never need blusher as I am already blushed. In a nice way, v lucky (big eye bags make up for it).
So....if anyone wants it, pm me, it did cost £25 and it's nearly full.
Tastes good too Smile

trulyscrumptious43 · 08/01/2012 23:01

Ooh love Carmex can't do without it, every day!

BlueIvy · 08/01/2012 23:19

Another vote for Clinique Chubby Sticks.

devonshireduckling · 09/01/2012 01:44

I got Chanel rouge coco shine lipstick in Evasion for Christmas, which is like a coloured balm, absolutely beautiful, peachy pink.

I second the idea of using a lip pencil and then some tinted balm though: I often use carmex tinted balm too!

marthastew · 09/01/2012 08:46

I'm also a fan of almost lipstick and clinique do now do it in other colours

I've tried the benetint. Agree it's better on cheeks than lips. I have tried tr soap an glory cheek and lip stain which I prefer for my lips. It makes them just dark enough without looking fake, I use the Vaseline rose lip balm in the tin to keep my lips soft over the top.

toboldlygo · 09/01/2012 14:07

Another Clinique Chubby Sticks fan.

thepeoplesprincess · 09/01/2012 16:22

The best bargain solution are the Coca-Cola lipbalms from Primark. About £1.50?
The Coke ;one leaves a slighty browny shine and the Cherry-Coke one is more pinky red.

orangina · 09/01/2012 16:32

Have also just bought a Clinique chubby stick.... love it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/01/2012 17:11

Thanks Martha - will go and investigate the new colours. It's hard to tell what colour they are online.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/01/2012 17:38

The Poppy King by No 7 Limited Editions at Boots are fairly sheer too. I've got number five, Intrigue, and it is a nice sheer plum colour.

warmandwooly · 09/01/2012 17:48

Clinique Almost Lipstick-try Black Honey

sobenobu · 09/01/2012 20:12

fluffy - another Lipchic fan here - Tea Rose is my everyday fave.So glad I bought 2 when working!

Clinique chubby sticks great - chunky cherry.

Burt's Bees lip balm stick thing in Rhubarb.

No 7 Sheer temptation lipsticks are good esp with a £5 off voucher!

Clinique Black Honey almost lipstick is now far too dark for me evern for evening.

sobenobu · 09/01/2012 20:14

I'm off to investigate the re-released Almost lipsticks from Clinique tomorrow!! Thanks martha.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 09/01/2012 20:21

lip crayon from soap and glory is lovely and not dry as you would expect. In fact I'm pretty much loving most of the new make up range.

HackneyCabbage · 09/01/2012 20:21

UNE cosmetics (boots/ superdrug) do a really lovely range called Une Sheer Lips Balm, which has very good things like shea butter in it. Very moisturising and nice natural colours. Not at all glossy/sticky.

wellwisher · 10/01/2012 08:55

Has anyone tried the new Universal Lip Glow lipstick from L'Oreal Paris? Looks quite nice...

takeonboard · 10/01/2012 08:59

Burts Bee's Fig is a lovely colour but sheer and moisturising. I have 4 Burts Bee's tinted lip balms in my bag and never wear lipstick since discovering them.

sobenobu · 10/01/2012 21:01

I tried the lip glow from L'Oreal - it made no difference to the colour of my lips but tasted like I had sunscreen on them, really bitter.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 10/01/2012 21:12

Wow! Thanks for all of the ideas. I haven't made it into town yet this week, but will take this list with me as I peruse Boots!
