I am sick of making mistakes. Grrrrrrr.

I took back an eye shadow to B Brown today- I didn't like the colour but it did also make my eyelids itch a bit (I can get the odd bit of eczema) and they agreed - I asked anyway- to swap for lip gloss. I came away with Buff which is supposed to be a beige pink but when it's on my lips it looks deeper and pinker- but barely there either IYSWIM.

I currently use Guava Gold by Clinique which is a lovely light peachy pink-neutral shade and i thought that Buff would be similar. I wish I had gone for a paler and peachier shade in BB.

Do you test lippie etc on your lips- with a finger etc- or on your hand?

And if you have any nice lipgloss shades do tell me! I am pale and use an ivory foundation and a pale peachy blusher. Can go a bit deeper but not pinky reds.

I never understood why people bought posh expensive lipsticks till I went with 2 friends to the posh make up section of the Frasers in Glasgow.

The assistant tested several lipsticks and other products on them, showing them in a mirror before they made their purchase.

Nice if you can afford it

I've had them applied before at counters and agree it helps but today I was not in the mood- winter clothes and a very hot John Lewis!

I am not a make up snob but do find more ££ lip glosses seem to stay on more.

I never buy cosmetics of any kind until I've had them applied to my lips (or eyes, or skin) in the shop, then worn them for several hours and looked at them in different lights - including daylight, lighting in shops, etc - and also noted how they feel on my lips (are they too dry, too sticky, sparkly, bright, etc?).

I always do all this twice before I buy - sometimes from same shop, sometimes different. Have never had any trouble with assistants. I find a quick return visit is easy to fit into other shopping and I have cut down on mistakes this way.

Always get the SA to try it on me, after years of wasting money on cheaper lippy you cant try on, I realised its false economy. Im better spending extra on a premium lippy thats been tried on me, than 4 cheapies that look awful on me

Never have a problem with getting someone to apply lipstick and then walking off to see what it's like in daylight - as it sometimes looks completely different. I usually buy a something I like a few days later rather than on the spot.

I am also a bit Hmm about using testers on my lips after an aquaintance was very blase about their cold sore Shock and transference.
