Primark?

KateMossinredredskinnypants · 15/01/2006 13:24

I have to ask.
My sister raves about Primark, and says I am being stupid and stuck up for not going there.
Some of the things she says she gets there look ok, but I am not convinced.
I think it looks cheap.
She says I am not looking properly.
Also it stinks in there!
What do you think, honestly?
Do you really like the clothes in there?
Have you ever bought anything there, and been happy with your purchase?
Really?
Truthfully?

I hate it.

compo · 15/01/2006 13:25

We don't have a Primark round her but I've bought clothes in Matalan, George @ Asda, B/Wise, TK Maxx and it's fine!!

NomDePlume · 15/01/2006 13:27

I've been in the one in Birmingham city centre twice. Both times it was packed, the stuff was all over the place like a jumble sale, it all looked & felt cheap and nasty. I don't know what all the fuss is about.

fairydust · 15/01/2006 13:28

we use to have one in derby and it was full of crap.

lou33 · 15/01/2006 13:29

I buy undies from there, excellent value

brimfull · 15/01/2006 13:30

great for kids clothes

ds who is 3 ,jeans with adjustable waist....£3.00!
great tops for kids

I get my pj's there.Kids pj's aswell.

DD 14 yrs has bought some nice tops, skirts there.

Cheap and cheerful. Some stuff is rubbish but there are loads of bargains imo.

Ours doesn't smell at all

biglips · 15/01/2006 13:31

There was times where ive gone in and its all crap stuff and some other days its all good stuff so you've gotta really look for it as ive bought a few pants that are really good

NomDePlume · 15/01/2006 13:32

I suspect the smell comes from the scrum of sweating bargain hungry-shoppers

lou33 · 15/01/2006 13:33

it's good for accessories too

i bought some opaque diamond patterned tights from m&s for 6 quid, exactly the same in primark for 2.50

mummygow · 15/01/2006 13:37

I like buying t-shirts from there as they are only about £2.50 so you can buy them all the time especially since you become a human cloth, hankerchief with a new baby

The true beauty of Primark is the seasonal stuff.

Military jackets for example. They were big and fashionable. You could get a lovely one in Primark for the fraction of the cost of other shops. You could wear it to death and when the fashion changed not cry because you'd spent a fortune.

Fantastic for socks etc. I've bought lots of lovely skirts there and I have a leather jacket that I bought years ago that's still going strong.

You need to choose the time that you go into Primark. Never at the weekends. Then Primark looks neat and there aren't so many bargain hunters. This will allow you to take your time whilst perusing the rails.

There are good bargains to be had, just choose your shopping time wisely.

KateMossinredredskinnypants · 15/01/2006 23:14

No, I don't think I will be venturing in there again.
I don't knowif it is the shoppers that smell, I think it may be the shop assistants
They must be the next rejects!

or "Next" rejects!

I've never noticed smelly shoppers or shop assistants in Primark. I have always found the shop assistants very good - very efficient at getting through the queues.(Hmmm if I can't smell it, does that mean it's me )

As other posters have said, steer clear of the busy times, and don't expect stuff you like every time go in.

Most of my new clothes come from Primark. That's all I can afford.

KateMossinredredskinnypants · 16/01/2006 11:57

I think I am a lazy shopper.
I am used to going into a shop and having an easy time of it, I just don't like rifling through a lot of clothes to find a couple of decent quality and decent looking items. Some of the things my sister gets are ok, I am just too lazy. If I couldn't afford much, I would probably spend time looking for nice things in there.
I might check out the pj's, or try another area where it isn't so smelly

I've bought my dd - a few clothes in there - its great for toddlers that wreck everything anyway -
I agree its not all good, but you can find some nice stuff if you can be bothered to look.

spacedonkey · 16/01/2006 12:57

I've bought lots of things in there - the branch in Hammersmith has recently been refurbished, so it's much bigger (and less stressful) now.

mumfor1sttime · 16/01/2006 13:02

I buy my work clothes in there - tshirts and black trousers. Good value, I will get paint on them anyway.
Havent looked at the kids clothes yet, keep meaning to, but the queues always look so long!

I was in there one afternoon with a friend, we were in the long queue, there was only one assistant serving. At dead on 3pm, she closed her till and walked off muttering 'thats it, my shift is over, sorry but there is noone to cover for me!'
