Home highlighting kit recommendations please!

I've only used home kits from Boots etc. in the past and they have always left my hair totally dry, frazzled and not at all how it is when you've (annoyingly) spent a fortune at the hairdressers! I am sure there must be a home kit that exists that resembles the same 'lift' product they use in salons? Anyone know of anything?

I wouldn't. My mum is a hairdresser and says basically you get what you pay for. If you cannot afford decent highlights you really are better off making the most of your natural hair, having a good cut and decent shampoo and conditioner to make it shine.

I have used the L'Oreal Perfect Blonde highlighting kits loads of times with pretty good results, I get DH to do most of the pulling hair through and stabbing my scalp.

Have also tried the Jerome Russell and Wella (in the very dated looking box) and they were not a disaster, but the L'Oreal one has always worked well for me, I have naturally dark blonde-to-mousey hair.

I use the (old fashioned looking) Wella highlights on my daughter's hair (mousy blonde) and they work beautifully and her hair is in great condition. It takes forever to pull the hair through the cap but it means no roots and looks good.
