how do you organise your wardrobes?

i have brought lots of new things because i have lost weight and also i have a new bedroom with a bit more storage than before (plus got a divorce last year so even more storage now)

Anyway, i'm at a losss as to how to organise stuff. Should it be in sections, ie, shirts in one place, trousers in another, or should it be in complete outfits. What does everyone else do.

This is my project for the week-end, organising my wardrobe.

Mine is in sections with all the individual sections then arranged by colour.

From left to right... trousers, skirts, dresses, jumper dresses, blouses/shirts, suits, jackets, coats.

Boots are all in an end of bed blanket box. Shoes are sorted by colour in plastic storage boxes.

I have vowed to be organised this year. Had a big clearout of old stuff I never wear. From left to right I hang coats, jackets, evening dresses, day dresses, skirts, trousers, shirts and blouses, knitwear is folded in drawers, shoes stored in boxes in bottom of wardrobe.

I do it by colour, from white through the colours (like a rainbow Smile) through to grey and black.

It helps me to see if I have too much or too little of a colour... at the moment I see it would be foolish in the extreme to buy another white top Blush

I so wish I had enough clothes to justify organising it in any way. At the moment I am able to survey my entire range of clothing (approx 20 items in total) at a glance, with no need for any sort of organisation whatsoever...

knickers and bras in one drawer.
socks and tights in another.
T shirts in drawer (long and short sleeved in opposite sides)
knitwear on a shelf.
vests and night wear either side of a drawer.
hanging from left to right: smart tops, skirts, hoodies, trousers.

Long dresses and coats in spare room due to size of wardrobe.
Another drawer with random stuff in it like swim suits, gym gear, jodhpurs, gloves, hats, scarfs. Shoes in a big pile on bottom of wardrobe, tangled up with GHDS and hair dryer.

It's not as organised as I'd like because I just don't have enough hanging or shelf space...

but what I do have is:

-A long rail where I hang coats, skirts, dresses, trousers , tunics and some knitwear.
-Underneath on the floor I have shoes in boxes and boots in flat boxes, stacked.
-On the shelves above I have T shirts, and a few items of chunkier kinitwear that is folded.
-I also hang coats in the spare bedroom- fleeces, waterproofs, and thicker winter coats.

In my chest of drawers I have 1 drawer for undies, 1 drawer for nighties and vest tops and slips, and 2 drawers for cardis and jumpers.

I am ruthless about throwing out or ebaying anything that I do not wear or no longer like.

Organise a wardrobe? I make sure the million dresses don't prevent the door closing, job well done.

I arrange clothes that need to be hung up in groups - tops, jeans, trousers, skirts, dresses, jackets. I can wear what I want to work, though. When I used to have to dress smartly for work I divided my wardrobe in two - half work clothes (jackets, suits, separates, blouses) and then other stuff arranged as above.

I have a stack of storage baskets in my wardrobe with separate baskets for scarves, belts, cardigans and knitwear, vests and camis, t-shirts and long sleeved jersey tops and thicker knitwear/jumpers etc.

I have two drawers in my chest of drawers - one for undies/socks/bras and the other for nightwear and swimwear.

I keep out-of-season clothes in a big plastic storage tub under my bed.

I am also ruthless about charity-shopping and Ebaying. I do it every 3 months or so and I never keep anything - no matter what it cost - if I haven't worn it for 3 months (unless its 'occasionwear', iyswim).

My only problem area - shoes/boots. I have loads of boots and they take up so much space - in bottom of wardrobe, under bed, on top of wardrobe and lined up against wardrobe. very cluttered and annoying.

One rail in a two-door built-in wardrobe, from L to R:
Outdoor stuff - trousers - sweatshirts/hoodies - dresses - more outdoor stuff (don't know why)

Shelf above: knitwear/jumpers (folded)

Lower rail in single-door wardrobe, DH has upper rail: T-shirts, shirts & blouses

Three drawers in chest of drawers, in descending order:
more T-shirts, light jumpers (both folded)
Bras, knickers
Scarves, gloves, socks, tights

Two drawers in built-in dressing-table, in descending order:
shorts, swimwear
odds and ends, hair dryer, spare batteries etc.

Mine is not perfect, I too need to spend a weekend on it. At the moment, my arrangement is as follows:

Chest of drawers - top left - gloves, scarves, socks
- top right - bras
- middle - briefs, tights, slips
- below middle - t shirts and sports wear
- bottom - jeans and heavier knits

Wardrobe - 1st section - shelving - hats/ wraps / belts / perfume / haircare
- 2nd section - coats and jackets
- 3rd section - skirts / trousers
- 4th section - dresses / tops
bottom of wardrobe - shoeboxes/ boots

Nothing is organised by colour - just how it 'looks' together and how frequently worn.

unruly pile in corner - everything else
