TA Job Interview... clueless

IAmRubyLennox · 06/01/2012 21:54

Hopefully not clueless about answering the interview questions, just about what to wear! Smile

I have an interview next week for a primary teaching assistant position. I know the school pretty well and it's not a suit-y sort of a place, the younger teachers tend to wear jersey dresses / tunics / leggings boots type combos, and the older teachers smart trousers / knitwear.

Please dress me!

Is a suit overkill or would it be expected for interview?
If not a suit, then what?

Tall, size 14, feel that shirts make me look masculine... do you need any more information??

Thanks in advance

Depends on what year group you'll be with. I work in upper KS2 and wear either casual trousers and tops or a long skirt and casual tops and ankle boots. The TAs further down the school wear pretty much what you've described the younger teachers as wearing but they tend to have much brighter colours.

Good luck.

It's KS1, split between years 1 & 2

I wear casual tops and trousers or tunic/legging/boots combo. I think I'd go smartish top and trousers for interview (or longish skirt, boots) but not a suit.
I work with ages between 2 and 16 (special school but used to do mainstream) and practical is order of the day:)

I would wear clothes that fit in with the look of the school, just slightly smartened for the interview. Good luck:)

I'd wear smart trousers and a nice blouse (and freeze!)

Smart trousers/skirt and a nice shirt will be fine. Don't overthink it - just something you're comfortable in. I've been interviewing TAs recently and I can't remember what any of them were wearing - I write myself little notes like "short dark hair, lipstick, white blouse" so I can put faces to names/notes afterwards, but the answers are what we pay attention to. Good luck :).

Well I went for an interview for a lunchtime controller role this week and went in smart trouser suit, Mulberry bag, and heels! But that's because that's how I feel comfortable and it feels like 'me' so I knew I would feel in interview mode if I wore a proper suit. Obviously as a SAHM for the past 8 years this is not how I ususally dress, so I dug them out from the pre-children days and felt quite nostalgic about the times when I actually used to look quite professional and smart! I got the job. Let's hope they don't expect me to be wearing that every day! On £7 an hour I'll be lucky if I can afford clothes at all!

I'm also tall size 14, and don't feel comfortable in shirts or jackets. So my smart work outfit, including for interviews, is a nice dress. M&S have some good ones quite cheap, which still look smart.

Good luck!

For an interview I'd err on the smrt side. Black trousers and a nice shirt or blouse? Suit dress with thick tights and courts or smart boots?

You can relax your dress if you get the job, but I think interview clothes should always be fairly smart
