Hair dye

Can you kind and wise ladies recommend a nice slightly gingery chestnut brown hair dye.
Sian of breakfast sort of colour.
Needs to cover lots of grey.
Can't afford £60 for the hairdresser to do her fancy multi colour job. Used to use a lovely natural instincts one, but it's vanished.

I am looking into henna + indigo, as would like to stop damaging my hair with nasty chemicals.

There are easier (less messy and time-consuming) natural options too - like Logona www.suvarna.co.uk/natural-hair-dye.html

I've not tried any of this myself yet - so listening to what others will have to say with interest, and will report my own results soon.

Bumping for you as also skint and looking very grey. Incidentally, if Henna is so good, (not being sarky btw) I wonder why salons don't use it.

I used it once, in my teens and ended up looking like a ginger haired ventriloquist dummy sold at the time.

"why salons don't use it" - my guess is that's because to get a reasonable, not too ginger color, you need about 4 hours (henna first, then indigo). Plus it looks richer on second and subsequent applications, whereas in a salon you're under pressure to deliver great look straight away. Also, it only works reasonably well on natural non-dyed hair (and just how many un-dyed heads would turn up in a salon??) On top of that, you need to do it more frequently which will be very expensive in a salon!

That's my thoughts anyway - but it's all theory. Who knows - I may be disappointed myself when I try. Will let you know how it goes.

I have started using the henna blocks from Lush. Quite time consuming and messy to apply, although after the first attempt I have learnt a lot on how to do it properly!! If you try them, I would recommend watching the Lush tutorial type video on how to use, for some extra tips.
Brilliant colour, lasts well, and covers a fair amount of grey.
Available in brown, reddy-brown, red and black - you can also mix the different colours together.
I am really impressed with it.

Just used Logona Chestnut Brown as henna and indigo were out of stock. I'm really pleased! Not received quite so many compliments for a long long time. The icing of course is that not only it looks fab, but it feels fab too - no irritation whatsoever.
