Not warm, no, need a jumper underneathm, think it was the Haven was a thick duffle style one, I also have the ava that is insulated and was fab fab fab last year in the snow. I have a w in L I was a 14 at the time and it is pretty large, the ava in M when I was a 12 and another w in black in S which is 8-19 (not quite there yet!) It is my best every coat for school run/pram walking hence having three!!

I have the Merrell Haven, it's the best coat I've ever had. It's warm and very waterproof - the water just beads on the surface. If I wear a jumper underneath it's too warm for walking unless it's a very cold day.

Hi,
I bought the Merrell wakefield last autumn for use as a raincoat and loved it so much that I bought the insulated version when it came in sales:
www.amazon.co.uk/Merrell-Wakefield-Insulated-Jacket-HEATHER/dp/B005MP5VNO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325766471&sr=8-1
It is cosy, stylish and when the cold winds blow I really don't care. I am toasty and dry.
I'm nearly 5'10 though and a size 12-14.
Cheers,
BatCat

Dingbats fur-ditto! Started with the wakefield and then bought the insulated version. Both size medium. Fantastic coats. I was worried that the insulated one wouldn't be warm enough but it's great as it's not too hot but still toasty and roomy enough to layer up underneath if bitterly cold. Lovely shape, fully waterproof fab coat. Had a lot of people compliment it too, which is nice.

I've got Wakefield insulated and have had lots of compliments, and I am really pleased with it. I do often wear a fleece underneath it if it's really cold though. And I have real problems getting the double zip to do up sometimes but don't know if that's just me! I'm size 12 but the coat is think so doesn't make you look bulky.

MissFoodie · 06/01/2012 11:57

how does the wakefield insulated size compare to boden? eg a boden 14 coat would be a merrell L? or M?

Amaris · 06/01/2012 22:12

I think M a 12 so I guess L a 14, but compare on size guide. My M fits fine and I'm a Boden 12

MissFoodie · 07/01/2012 15:53

thanks, and it's not bulky then?

sobenobu · 07/01/2012 20:42

Normal Wakefield not warm and cosy but strangely not cold either. I think this is due to the windproofy/waterproofyness;)
On it's first outing someone commented on my weight loss - which was weird as I had gained weight. The cut is very good then and not what I was buying it for although it has been described as "fitted".

Double zips are my bete noire.
I'm too rushed to do them properly and I have problems with every coat that has these. I often have to jump into coats as they are permanently done up or wander round with just the double zip attached at the chest like a brooch.

Amaris · 08/01/2012 16:42

Glad it's not just me with the double zip! I like the idea of climbing into it. What is the point of them, I don't get it, but maybe that's because I just wear it to go to work and Sainsburys rather than anything more outdoorsy!

Sparklegeek · 08/01/2012 17:16

I don't have any Merrell coat but wanted to agree with the double zip thing...AAARRRRGGGHHHH! Thought it was just me doing it wrong every sodding time

moretea · 09/01/2012 19:54

I have an insulated Wakefield and love it. Its great for walking and definately keeps out the wind and rain out but also looks good enough to wear everyday. It was the best looking long jacket I could find. Its not at all bulky so is flattering and the hood is great in the rain as it properly covers your head and has a kind of peak at the front. I'd say a Small is equivalent to a 10 and you could wear a jumper under too. Only down sides are I find the arms a bit short and the zip is really annoyingly difficult to do up. I'm off to see if I can step into mine if I leave it partially done up - thanks for the tip Sobenobu. I always though double ended zips were for mens coats so they could undo them to wee Hmm so what the point of them on a womens jacket is beyond me.

HackneyCabbage · 09/01/2012 20:13

I have Merrell Haven. very warm, very dry. Love it. I'm a 16 with large bust and think the shape is very good on me as it comes in at the waist and is not as bulky as you might think. I have XL. Which is roomy. So you may be good with a L if you're closer to a 14.

rooksby · 09/01/2012 20:32

I was considering buying a Haven but am pg so will wait til autumn now.

Double zips - I am only 5'2" and they are fantastic on long coats, otherwise if you have to do a big stride over a puddle or something you can bust your zip, a double zip means you can undo from the bottom to the level of your knees! Hope that makes sense :)

moretea · 09/01/2012 21:15

Thanks rooksby, that makes sense Smile

Very excited to have just got my Merrell Wakefield this morning after reading all the threads. Just to add another plus to having a double zip....fab for pear shapes with small boobs and big bums Wink For once I'm actually really pleased that the forecast for this weeks school run is rain!

QuinnFabray · 23/04/2012 14:36

Yes, I dug my Wakefield out of the wardrobe this week, having put it away for the summer. HA! Bloody perfect for this wet and windy weather.

noseynoonoo · 23/04/2012 14:39

I bought the Merrell Isadore last year. Quite the best winter coat I have ever had. I was the warm smug mum at the school gate this winter. :-)
