Stylish rucksack for work. Does such a thing exist?!

I've been looking round the shops for ages and can't find anything! A few months ago I started a new job and now travel around on public transport a lot for meetings, lugging my laptop & papers in oversized hangbags that only sit on one shoulder. I'm starting to get back & neck problems, so really need to start using a bag that evenly distributes the weight across both shoulders. I also want to start cycling to work, so need a rucksack for that.

All the rucksacks I've seen are either too sporty or 'trendy' / studenty. Ideally I want something that is stylish, feminine, big enough for a laptop, and waterproof. Does such a bag exist?! Any tips on where I should look or can you suggest some good online shops? All suggestions gratefully received!

TIA

There have been a couple of threads on here asking the same question recently. I haven't got time to search now... (meant to be dragging myself to town!) I've got a 'Troop' one but the website is currently showing all rucksacks out of stock so I don't know if they'll be doing more soon. There are some available on Amazon though, for example:

www.amazon.co.uk/TRP0256-Troop-London-Medium-Backpack/dp/B00562ZPSY/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sh_6

Mine is functional, comfortable and not too unattractive, not sporty or trendy and takes a laptop and all the other stuff I cart around daily.

Hope this helps.

i was after one last year for days out with the kids and to use at the aiport as my carryon. I couldn't find anything with padded straps which is a must if carrying lots, i settled for a black eastpak in the end, loaded it up and was very comfy i was even able to carry my toddler, i've used it quite a few times now and it still looks good as new.

DH gave me a small backpack-style handbag that I now use all the time. It's made by Hedgren - I expect they do large sizes too.

Hi,
I've been commuting by bike all my working life adn I would really really disuade you from carrying a rucksack on your bike. Several reasons, you get much too sweaty, and even the best ones tend to put too much strain on your back (you move about on the bike and so the weight is not as evenly distributed. In stead get a bike with a biek rack and a pannnier. If you want to have a pannier that becomes a rucksack there are a few options.... this thing which is not pretty but very practical- I've tried several over teh years but eventualy shelled out for it and haven't regretted it. this one smarter looking or from ortlieb who make some of the best most technical gear around.
sorry they don't tend to very chic! But the problem is that you need good padded straps to get comfort and you don't tend to find those in leather/floral prints etc....

Thank you! Great help. That Hedgren and Arkel sites look like they have what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the tip about the pannier. It's expensive transitioning from couch potato to cyclist, and I don't want to spend money on the wrong gear!

I agree completely with hettie - I use one of these - it's great because you can zip over the bike clip and it looks like an ordinary bag. Plenty of room for everything, very durable - if not completely waterproof
