What to wear in the evening at 5* hotel in Canaries

Hi

We are off to the Princess Yaiza in Lanzarote next week. It is about 20-24 degrees during the day and about 16 at night and I am not sure what to take!

I have some linen trousers and shorts for the day but only have winter type skirts which I wear with long boots for cooler times. Will that be smart enough for general evenings? I have a couple of 'nice' dresses for posh evenings but am not sure what to take for the other nights. Would you take and wear long boots?

Thanks in advance

Linen trousers + top + cardi or maxi dress / skirt and a cardi? I think long boots might look odd tbh. Maybe take some ballet flats for footwear.

NewChoos · 01/01/2012 21:31

Think might be too warm for boots, could you get some maxi dresses and wear with wedges/sandals?

BBC4lover · 01/01/2012 21:38

Thanks. Would they not be too cold when it is 16 degrees?

I really have NO idea ...!

definitely not long boots. I would wear some ballet flats or similar at those temps. it is a nice hotel but not uber-flash so I wouldn't stress too much.

BBC4lover · 02/01/2012 11:48

Thanks ladyasriel. OK, off to search out my ballet pumps.

It was about the same in Crete during October.

My favourite things were a maxi dress, ballet flats and a Theory soft grey cashmere cardigan with a bright yellow trim.

Thanks MB. The more I think about it (and you all saying!) holiday wear with a cardi is the way to go. I just HATE being cold!

Oh yes I did actually wear a scarf on one of the coldest days. Maxi dress and scarf Grin. Probably looked fairly odd. But I just couldn't put on the knee high boots, it felt wrong with the luxurious but relaxed feel of the resort.

Plus we only had to walk one minute to the restaurant Wink.

Ooh the Yaiza is lovely what about opaques and ballet flats ? I would certainly take a few wrap/pashmina type thingies as they can make a outfit look dressy but still provide some warmth iyswim

BBC4lover · 02/01/2012 19:05

oh, underactivethyroidmum, have you been? We have a 2 bedroom apartment (so over the road) but am not sure how far over the road, over the road is iykwim?!

Is it a long hike?

Oh, don't have any maxi dresses ... they look wrong on me and I don't fit into any of my summer frocks. uh-oh ...

I would dress up linen trousers then. I don't think fora minute any resort hotel in Spain/Canaries is too fussy/dressy to be honest, people just don't bother like they did. I lived in Malta for 3 years and never foiund winters as cold as the locals did - I just needed actual sleeves and still wore sandals/flipflops!

underactivethyroidmum · 02/01/2012 21:54

Yes we have BBC4 and it was really nice. We went in early July so the weather was very hot but I doubt its no more than a 10 minute walk from the main hotel to the annex bit.

I agree with escape people don't dress up that much to go to dinner and you would be fine in a nice pair of linen trousers and a glittery top. I have something similar to this

www.wallis.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33058&storeId=12557&productId=3998347&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=215491&parent_categoryId=209167&pageSize=20

which I wore with sandals but now I wear it with opaques and ballet pumps and a pretty cardigan.

I wouldn't worry about evening temperatures too much as I'm sure you'll be inside the majority of the time and if I remember rightly some places near the marina have patio heaters outside
