Right- I need help with my eye make up.

I'm in a rut with my eye make up, despite having lots of products.

I'm a left over from the 70s girl, and find that I tend to use a darker shadow on my lids ( mid grey/brown or a khaki brown) and a lighter one on the brow, with a thin line of darker colour above my lashes - top and bottom.

But young girls these days seem to have nude lids with a tiny bit of darker shadow in the crease. No? when i try this it all eventually merges into one by lunchtime.

I've got grey-green, slatey colour eyes and they are quite big- my best feature.

Ideas please from your young 'uns!

I can't see any Chanel colours I like Smile I used 4 of the 5 colours in a DIOR palette and it's only the thought of spending £40 that is putting me off buying again.

so no liners? Not even a thin thin on upper lids? I am willing to be convinced....Smile

Great thread OP, you just described exactly how I apply my make up Blush

Anyone know where I can get matt eye shadows, I don't like the frosty stuff.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 01/01/2012 11:17

Ooh, I found this the other day.

ameliagrey · 01/01/2012 11:18

Bobbi Brown and Clinique and Laura Mercier do matte shades.
I did buy a matte off white yesterday at BB- Ivory.

what do I do with it now?

I bought a nice matte stay perfect one from No.7 yesterday.

Do a wash of the pale colour (as long as it isn't too chalky or pale - it should be a similiar colour to your skin - over the lid) then put some of the darker colour along your socket line. With a pencil fill in between your lashes.

Great Lisa E video- thanks.

Why dont you go to your department store and go to the make up brand counter you like the most i.e Clarins, Clinique, Chanel and ask them to give you a make-over. They'll listen to what you like and most are happy if your willing to spend some money on products

I'd agree with Shiney, get a palette but have a look at the Chanel ones in real life, as they are very wearable and you'll be surprised how flattering they are.

Although, I am a liner fan and love MAC Kohl's - very smoky and soft looking.

ameliagrey · 01/01/2012 12:13

LOL! I am open to looking at the Chanel- but last time I looked I felt the colours were far too dark/bright- and far too pearly/glittery- I can't do sparkle as my eyelids( brow bone mainly) are a big crepey ( left over from bad eczema in the past.)

I've now got this bloody B Brown shadow in Ivory which is too pale- used it once to try today. Do you think there is any chance they might change it for Bone which she also showed me- but light in shop was useless?

I have 6 to 8 Chanel palettes. All colors are extremely sheer and subtle, heaven for an adult woman and lovely on my pale skin. Prelude (a cool neutral palette) is my favorite for a neutral day look, Lilium is also one that I love. I alternate depending on my mood, today is a Murano day.

If you want eye shadow that looks like the buttons in a paintbox, don't buy Chanel. Also, don't buy it if you want matte. I love Chanel because of its subtle, eye-brightening shimmer and infinite wearability. I need the light, not the color.

ameliagrey · 01/01/2012 14:51

Crikey Dona that's almost £300 worth of eye shadow Shock

I don't know what you mean by this If you want eye shadow that looks like the buttons in a paintbox
deffo don't want that- want subtle for an older woman.

A tiny bit of shimmer is okay but not oddles of pearl.

I've finally bought myself the Urban Decay Naked set and think I will use it a lot. Basically, I think if I mix any lighter shade with any darker shade, it should work.

I do like Urban Decay eyeliners too because they are v soft, so can be put on then blended - or I use eyeshadow with a v thin brush to line the outer edge of my eye for a softer look than a pencil.

Iatemyskinnyperson · 01/01/2012 19:35

I disagree on the 'no liners', but they definitely need to be used differently.

I run some water-proof liner (estee Lauder double wear in coffee) on my tightline- inside my top lashes. You get thicker looking lashes without being harsh. I often also add some dark shadow as a liner- just at the base of my lashes and pulled out and up very slightly. I use a small angled liner brush. Then blend to soften

SantieMaggie · 01/01/2012 19:54

if i'm going out i use a highlighter under my eyebrow then 3 eyeshadows lightest on lid next lightest in crease and darkest on outer corner which i may use as an eyeliner too.

during the day i vary depending on mood maybe just a line of eyeshadow as eyeliner which works with bright shades, or 1/2 colours just on the lid or maybe just mascara.

i'm a bit of an eyeshadow whore though and love experimenting.

pinterest has some great ideas on it.
