Post Baby Wardrobe

Ladies... Can you help me please?

I am shortly due DC2, and am beginning to think about my post baby wardrobe. I suspect I will be a size 14-16, and will be planning to diet back to a size 12 (or in an ideal world a size 10!). However, take that with a pinch of salt as I still haven't lost the baby weight from DC1 who is now 3 :(

Last time I was on maternity leave I lived in some pretty awful tops matched with a few pairs of jeans. This time I want to look, and feel better.

The problem is, I don't know where to start or what to buy. My thoughts / restrictions are:

  • I will be breastfeeding, so need suitable clothes. Not necessarily breastfeeding specific clothes, but tops I can lift up with perhaps a vest underneath to cover my flabby tummy.
  • Flabby tummy, which I want to disguise as much as possible
  • Budget. I don't want to spend a lot when I intend (!) to lose a lot of weight, however don't mind buying a small number of reasonably priced things.

The only thing I do know, it that I'm going to get fitted for, and buy decent nursing bras - probably in bravissimo.

Thankyou all in advance for your help and advice.....

Buy some breastfeeding tops you can wear under your favorites. I kept using my maternity jeans (H&M with high tricot tube top, 3 pairs) for a month or two for extra support after giving birth. I also bought a couple of A-line skirts that could morph into different sizes (wearing higher or lower). My favorite was nursing tank tops paired with clothes from past times and a few pretty tops from sales. I had several white H&M nursing tees, they went with everything and washed well.

I gained almost 3st during both my pregnancies and have lost all of it (or nearly all, maybe 5lb remaining), returning back to sz 10. My advice is, don't buy too many lovely clothes in your postpartum size - I changed sizes quite rapidly and the few items I bought in a frenzy 3-6 weeks postpartum were soon too big. Getting back to my lovely old jeans was a big weight loss motivator for me, and rewarding myself with new clothes as I reached my target weight helped too.

I bought lots o different stretch tops from
Primark. Short sleeved, long sleeved, vests, all different colours and just used to layer them up with a decent thick cardigan over the top. Got my cardigan from fat face.

That way as ds2 got older and BF less, I could start buying nicer tops and not care about chucking the Primark one's out.

When I was on Mat leave I invested in a couple of pairs of flat duo boots (fat legs here!) And wore them with thick tights or leggins and knitted dresses and non clingy jersey dresses. Tights made me feel like my baby belly was held in a bit and wearing frocks made me feel a bit better dressed than just being in jeans and t-shirt all the tie..... Also havng say 7+ frocks meant I dodnt have to think of what 'outfit' to wear, its like a uniform- easy! I had my hair cut with a fringe so I could still look like my hair was 'done' rather than just scraped back even if I'd only had time to just do my fringe..... I think the key is making life easy for yourself while looking like you've made an effort - I also wore lots of scarft that were easy to throw on and went with the tone of whatever dress I was wearing and lifted the outfit.....
