do you use a foundation brush?

and if so- why? Smile
seems the experts can't agree- some say they like fingers others say a brush.

Do brushes gobble up loads of foundation and waste it?

Yes, because it seems to get a better finish on it, and I find t quicker than fingers. Doesn't use more foundation either (I use a teeny drop for my whole face). I have a Mac brush.

eandz · 27/12/2011 19:47

Actually, I'm quicker with my fingers when it comes to foundation, but if I can't get my hands messy then I use a brush.

I have met Hopefully and think her suggestion is sound, she looks fabulous. :)

lubeybaublely · 27/12/2011 19:48

I prefer fingers to brushes and sponges

canyou · 27/12/2011 19:52

I also use a brush and find it is a better finish, I clean the brush after every use and I find my foundation lasts a lot longer now then when I did it with my fingers

CMOTdibbler · 27/12/2011 19:54

I use a stipple brush, and the effect is soooo much better than fingers which I had always sworn by

Methe · 27/12/2011 19:54

Yes. I had a make up tutorial and thats what they told me to do so I do it.

Get a much better coverage than with fingers but I only wear make up about once a month.

lou33 · 27/12/2011 19:58

I use a brush, and agree about the better finish. However it has mysteriously disappeared for the last couple of days and i have been using my fingers instead. I prefer the brush, no visible difference in amount of foundation used imo.

ameliagrey · 27/12/2011 20:02

you see I had some foundation applied by the EL woman when trying a new foundation, and she used a brush- and it took ages- going over and over my skin ( and I don't have blemishes Smile)

how does the finish differ- and while you arere here suggest some good brushes! ( and not £50 thanks!)

Bodyshop brushes are god :)

Hopefully · 27/12/2011 20:20

Aw, thanks eandz - you're gorgeous too!

Chewbecca · 27/12/2011 20:29

Yes, since I had make up applied at a make up counter. I'm comvinced it looks better, specially round the edges, no finger drag marks. I just bought a bog standard brush in boots for under a tenner.

jumpinghoops · 27/12/2011 20:34

The No7 Foundation brush here is good, I personally find I use less when I use the brush as I end up wiping too much on with fingers but that's just me maybe. I bought the brush with a No 7 £5 voucher.

boredandrestless · 27/12/2011 20:35

I use a body shop brush, only need a small amount of foundation to get a good coverage. Left foundation brush at home recently when I stayed out overnight and really noticed the difference.

emsyj · 27/12/2011 20:54

I think it depends what sort of brush you use... I have the MAC flat foundation brush (MAC 190) and I hate it, it takes forever and ever to blend. BUT I have now bought the Makeup Geek foundation stippling brush (on advice from my tutor on a make up course) and it is so much better - you can either use it to apply from scratch (gives you a super-quick application with a really airbrush perfect finish) or if you prefer, dab on with fingers and just use it to blend. It's about $15.99 and the shipping is about $6 so it costs about £15 ish after currency conversion. Worth every penny. I bought another as soon as I tried the first one - I never intend to be without it!!!

If you prefer a more 'traditional' foundation brush, the Royal one is super cheap and IMO way way way better than the MAC version (which set me back £26 - total waste of money...) It's this one - got two of these too Blush www.amazon.co.uk/Royal-Foundation-Brush/dp/B001KWD6O4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325019072&sr=8-1

I use this for a 'heavier' coverage for evening make-up. Also I think applying with a brush helps your foundation last longer - there are oils in your fingers, I reckon that does make a bit of a difference to foundation's sticking power when you blend with fingers.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 27/12/2011 21:16

I use a Crown brush and I think you can really see the difference when applied with fingers. That No7 one is recommended by Lisa Eldridge and I'm intrigued by the stippling one.

emsyj · 27/12/2011 22:02

The stippling one is amazing - I am a total convert. Try it!

eandz · 27/12/2011 23:34

thanks hopefully :)

franke · 27/12/2011 23:40

I use a really cheap, synthetic one from E.L.F. I get a much more even coverage than with fingers and it doesn't seem to eat foundation/tinted moisturiser.

Very tempted by the stippling brush...

humblehippo · 27/12/2011 23:55

I always use a foundation brush for proper foundation, fingers for tinted moisturiser.

itfcbabe · 28/12/2011 01:17

Yes love them get a better more even finish
