Dress me! I'm a scruff-bag...

Hello, kind people of S&B. I'm new here, & out of ny depth.

Left to my own devices I'll happily grub around in ripped jeans, a hoody and broken skate shoes. But I'm 30, and a professional now!

It occurred to me the other day that I haven't bought any new clothes for years (except maternity). I need new casual & work stuff (mainly work), but have NO idea where to start.

Please help - I'm tall-ish, slim, can't stand heels (on my feet all day and need to be nimble), don't 'do' dresses (or indeed anything remotely girly) and need pockets on trousers.

Where do I start?!

I was going to suggest some casual dresses and tights & boots for daytime. But read you didn t do dresses ( would you give them a go ? A casual dress is very easy to wear )

On phone so can t do links . But try Asos and search loungewear dresses - you should get some quite 'undressy' dresses ! Great to wear round house and to shops etc .

Otherwise dark skinny jeans , chunky boots , top and oversized cardigan . With a scarf ( always ) warehouse do nice drapey scarves with lots of soft material in them.

Not so good with ' smart ' as I don t buy smart for my job .

All saints have scarves, I got the curse scarf for xmas and got a lot of attention when I wore it, it looks very unusal.

In fact if you like casual all saints could be your friend, I get mine off ebay.

I get my boots off LK Bennett in the ebay fashion section, there all new. Mine have a 2" heel, I dont like heels generally but I can tolerate a low one (plus I'm a podiatrist).

I'd rather buy quality in the sales than buy cheap all year round.

I would suggest;

A good pair of skinny/straight leg jeans in dark, light and black/grey.
A denim shirt (if dark wear with light jeans and vice versa)
A good leather jacket in a classic style (black)
A selection of funky t shirts (all saints are not that £££)
A pair of boots that match your leather jacket
A couple of wool jumpers.

Oversized scarves in interesting patterns/edgy handbag.
I wear a uniform to work so I'm no help there.

A lot of looking professional is looking tidy, hair well groomed, clean shaped nails, discrete make up and threaded eyebrows.

If youre tall and slimmish Uniqlo so good skinny cargo trousers with pockets

Wear with a slim fitting long sleeved top and a big scarf or a boxy casual long sleeved blouse

Primark jeans are fantastic, especially the skinny ones if you are tallish

Ooh, thanks for those suggestions!

I will check out those dresses, lemon, although I'll make no promises. I just don't know how to 'be' in a dress. And I can't stand drawing attention to myself, you know the "ooh, so you have got legs then" type comments. But, I'll look, and maybe I'll be brave!

I bought a pair of skinny jeans once, but didn't really know what to wear with them on my feet.

I need boots then? I'll look...

Thanks all! A great starting place Grin
