DS complaining his head is really itchy??

I've been through it with a fine tooth comb, he doesn't have head lice or eggs. He used to suffer from eczema but he's grown out of it. I've looked at his scalp but can't see any dry patches. He is very allergy prone ie strawberries, pineapple, certain washing powders (fairy non-bio is evil to him) and new things pop up all the time.

Can anybody recommend a shampoo that he could use that might help to ease the itch. I don't know what else to try xx

You can get an oilatum shampoo but its really exspensive. My DS gets this occasionally, he has very dry skin. Has had it since he was born but its not eczema apparantly. I suppose you could try head and shoulders that works for me.

tried anti dandruff shampoo that hasn't worked. I'll have a look at oilatum. thank you

Philip Kingsley Itchy Flakey Shampoo

It is expensive but if you find it doesn't work for you, you can send it back if you buy through QVC

We used to get Oilatum on prescription, so free for children.
It's worth having a chat with your GP.

Olive oil rubbed into the scalp can also sooth itchiness.

I use olive oil overnight when I have a sore scalp. I warm it up a tiny bit (10 secs in the microwave) and then massage it and leave it until the morning. It works really well for me

I stopped by superdrug on the way to the cinema today and bought oilatum and head and shoulders itchy scalp so here's hoping. I was at the GP yesterday for me, I wish I'd mentioned it now. if neither of those work I'll try the olive oil. thank you everybody and merry christmas Xx

Mine is really itchy at the moment. GP told me last winter it was eczema on the scalp but not sure it is the same now. Did get some oily spray stuff on prescription last time though...

I had a very dry sore scalp. I gave up shampoo - use just conditioner. My scalp is healthy and my hair is freaking glorious. It needs washing and conditioning daily tho as without shampoo obviously oil can build up otherwise.

FlightRisk · 27/12/2011 11:54

toddlerama he very rarely shampoo's his hair. He has quite long hair and the natural oils keep it healthy. so far the head and shoulders conditioner is working so I'm gonna save the oilatum for when it starts to fail Xx

Your gp should prescribe some shampoo, nizoral is available on prescription (or used to be). How old is he? Sometimes stress can bring out a reaction like this.

FlightRisk · 27/12/2011 13:03

FrigidHare you may have a point about the stress he's 10. After his delightful father messed him about in the summer (again) he's pretty much gone off the rails attitude wise. His headteacher is sorting a counsellor through school, so I wonder if this is all related. If it carries on I will sort him out at the dr but we'll just see how it all goes first.
