toddler girl shoes that don't get rain-soaked...

I'm hoping that the stylish among us will know more about shoes than me - I just head to Clarks. So what bugs me is that while my DS gets a choice of winter shoes that LOOK like they are good winter shoes (ie they cover his feet), DD's choice seems to be all Mary-janes or boots. I like boots, but they won't work with everything eg she wears lots of her brother's old trousers.

So where can I find funky, nice WEATHERPROOF(!) shoes for small girls? DD is 18mo. Plus I don't really want them to be in some pale, washed out colour for the winter mud and rain to ruin.

Otherwise I'll just stick with the red wellies, as she loves those!

Dd used to get her older brother's classic lace up Kickers when she was a toddler.

in red

Cute! However her older brother really is older (he's now 4) and although I thought I'd got unisex type shoes when he was young, his feet were wider than hers so I've ended up buying shoes for her anyway... However I could look out for new Kickers in a sale (or on eBay...)

Clarks normally do full foot shoes for girls as well? eg these

Not sure why boots don't work with everything? Once the trousers are over them, they look like shoes. Or look nice with tights as well. They are ridiculously expensive though!

Ooh, I definitely second the kickers idea, my DD is on her third winter wearing them, they are fab. Dry in the rain and look lovely. Her feet are always nice and warm when we take them off even when its freezing outside. We tend to go for the Velcro ones so she can do them herself, anything for an easy life!

we got dd boy's style last year, but this year went to an independent shop and got start rite boots.

NumptyMum · 20/12/2011 13:18

I think re the boots it's because the ones I was looking at (in the sale) have big fluffy tops to them... I rejected the other Clarks covered shoes because they looked like old-school cornish pasty shoes (just my own personal taste!). I prefer the boys style, like this sort of thing with straps over the top - although tartan is not to everyone's taste - but also I'm mainly looking for what's in sales at the mo, having just been made redundant.

I do like these though, thanks for the tip re Startrite boots!

Yes, I see what you mean NM.
Dd wore 2 or even 3 pairs of kickers that used to belong to her brother, but once ds started getting older he also started to destroy his shoes, so it was impossible to "recycle" them.
When she was a toddler she used to have a pair of handmedowns from her db and I used to buy her 1 pair of mary janes.

Try European brands like Umi or Ricosta, such as these

NumptyMum · 20/12/2011 21:46

Ooo - I like those, LIZS! Thanks for the tip off.

Swedish Kavat shoes amd boots are the best I've ever had for my DDs. Their school shoes are Kickers, ok quality leather but very high maintenance (started looking worn out immediately, whereas the Kavat winter boots look like new after 2 wet winters).

LennyGodber · 21/12/2011 20:32

Another vote for Kickers, my rather boisterous little girl has been wearing hers for about 4 months and they still look fab (the bootee style with velcro). They were cheaper than Clarks and much better made. Kickers own website usually have a fair few styles reduced, check the "sale" section.

Hers are patent leather, not sure if it makes a difference but they do keep her feet dry in the rain, though not totally puddle proof!

Here is a link to a site that sells them, my DD has an older version of the Lisa boots and they are waterproof and indestructible
