Cashmere jumper crisis!

teejwood · 20/12/2011 12:41

My most beloved Brora cashmere jumper has acquired two holes
I have emailed Brora to ask for wool to match so I can mend it - but should I wash it or dry clean it now (before the holes are mended and risk increasing the size of the holes) or wait till I have received the wool and mended the jumper before cleaning?

TIA for your advice/experience x

I thought Brora did a mending service...? Worth checking that. I got a jumper from them that developed holes within a couple of months; they repaired it for me free of charge (bloody hope so too at that price). They did a good job, repairs didn't show and have lasted well.

Check it out with them!

Oh hang on, see that they say you have to darn it yourself (presume if holes not in new/faulty item). In which case I'd say wash it AFTER darning it, and when you are darning don't pull the new darned wool together too tight as there may be shrinkage in the new wool when it is washed. Again, I'd suggest you ask Brora's input on washing and darning advice!

thanks numpty.

i think i'm going to bag it and put it in the freezer just in case it's a moth problem, until the wool arrives. then will mend and then launder.
