Bare Minerals - any good? Any other suggestions? Pale skin.

I have very fair skin (not quite porcelain) and have always struggled with foundations. I don't know what it is about my skin tone but foundations either look to pale and I end up looking a bit Twilight, so I go a shade darker and look like I've been Tangoed.

Heard a few good reviews of Bare Minerals...anyone use it, and is it any good? I'd like a reasonably good cover without looking too 'overdone'.

I have v fair skin and use Bare Minerals foundation (where I actually need Medium). I think it's fab. Feels very light to wear but covers well. I use concealer from MAC as well.

Thanks for the reply. Light / good coverage was exactly what I was hoping to hear!

BE is great for achieving that real skin only better look. The key is in the application and applying a very small amount and adding further small amounts as required otherwise it can go cakey. Medium Beige is their best seller and is supposed to suit most skin tones, but I find it awfully orangie. I have a lightish/medium skin with yellow undertones and wear the Light. You need to try it really to chose a shade. Just remember the foundation is not meant to add colour to your skin - you do that with blusher and or bronzer. BE do a pot of 'warmth' designed to add a bit of colour to the skin.

Not wishing to confuse, but have you tried a tinted moisturiser? I love Laura Mercier TM as it makes my skin glow - in a nice way:)

lily lolo

I've got fairly light and light in BE. The light is a bit yellowy on me. I'm quite pale though. I have just ordered a lily lolo starter kit as I've heard that is good and has plenty of shades to choose from.

ILoveApples · 21/12/2011 01:23

Love Lily Lolo. I've been using it for about 5 years. I think it's much better (and cheaper) than BM and the colour range is wider. I am v fair skinned with blonde hair and have been using their Blondie shade, although the palest is Porcelain, and I've recently noticed another colour called China Doll which is inbetween the two. They also sell sample pots at £1.29 to help you choose. BTW I don't work for them.

Snails - Thanks for the suggestions. I tend to use TM in the Summer, but I prefer a little more coverage in the winter when I'm not quite so glowy!

Foodie, Dilly & Apples - I've never heard of Lily Lolo before, can you get it in the shops or just on t'internet? The cheaper price is alluring me already...!

Also love Lily Lolo - only seen it online before. as @I Love Apples says, go with the tester pots - I ordered loads when I first started and they are fab. I have pale and v senstive skin and it also gave me a chance to check I didn't react before commiting to a normal sized pot - the samples also last a long time :)

OhThisIsJustGrape · 21/12/2011 07:17

I use Lily Lolo too. You can get it in some beauty salons and I think they have a small number of shops but I've never seen one.

Their delivery is very fast though, it always arrives next day whenever I order

They also have a Facebook page where they can advise you on shades etc or you can drop them an email (responded within an hour when I sent one) or phone them. They are very helpful.

The best thing about LL is that their products don't contain the harsh chemicals that BE do. No bismuth which is a major irritant for a lot of people.

I have very fair skin - pinky tones with freckles and reddy blonde hair. I use BE foundation. I started with Fairly Light, which tbh I found too yellowy as someone else has said. I switched to Fair and I find this shade much better. In any event though I find the mineral powders more forgiving than any liquid foundation.

Dillydollydaydream · 21/12/2011 10:23

Glad to see positive reviews of lily lolo. Still waiting for my starter kit. Only ordered it 19th though! I also ordered a sample of the stardust highlighter as that looks good too! Can wait for my goodies to arrive so I can play! Love new makeup! Xmas Blush

I have super fair skin and my best bet - i get compliments on it - is collection 2000 foundation - it has a pink lid and come in a tall glass bottle- in 'light'. Pale but not pasty. Not too many blue tones in it. Really successful with that and i have tried the LOT. clinique etc. Then I put on accessorised blusher- its a pink pot with swirls of white in- and then a bronzer like dallas from benefit or the choclate scented one from Borgeouis- There is no 'shimmer' in it to make you look like a disco ball.

Finish with a slick of liquid liner, and a burgundy lipgloss and mascara- done. :-)

PS it costs about £4.99.

Please try it and let me know if you like!
