Boden Knitwear

Has anyone else had a problem with them pilling? I am returning my 4th Boden cardi tomorrow (over several years!) I know that as this has happened to me so often you may wonder why I continue buying them, but I do get tempted & they are always very good at returns.

Yes, I have given up buying it.

Don't go for any that have the dreaded angora/rabbit hair as they bobble like crazy! Whilst it is disappointing, at least Boden do refund - hmmm, I'm now going to dig out and return a merino wool cardi that I wore once and looks as though it's been worn to death!

No- no problems.

I do think that there's something of a misunderstanding about knitted things- they do pill- and often the softer the wool, the more they pill.

You can easily remove bobbles with alittle bobbling tool.

Having said that, I find White Stuff the worst for bobbling and that is down to the mix i think of yarns- cotton and wool etc.

i have one of their everyday cardigans and a polo top that both look like rags and the haven't been worn that much either. i still buy their cashmere which pills a bit but still looks fine

snailsontour · 19/12/2011 12:27

I'll second Boden cashmere - I just love it and can't get enough (omg I must have more than 15 pieces (blush)

I expect some pilling - it is wool and to be expected - However, when you wear something once and it looks shabby due to excessive pilling then I say that at Boden prices this is not acceptable.

I don't have a problem with their knitwear pilling - it's the wool mix stuff that goes dreadfully out of shape and looks knackered after 2 or 3 washes that I get annoyed about. I think it is recent suppliers to Boden that are the problem. I have a lovely merino tunic from there which is at least 5 years old and still looks brand new. Stuff I bought in this summer looks tatty.

I've a Boden cashmere jumper which is now in its 3rd or 4th season and it looks like new- it's been machine washed all that time ( on a gentle 30C handwash) and looks great.

scarlet76 · 19/12/2011 16:18

I like their cashmere and their merino wool which seem to wash and wear well - retain their shape and not too much pilling.
I find the 'favourite' knitwear is most definitely not my favourite. It pills, looks like a rag after a couple of wears and does not retain its shape. I have returned a favourite cropped cardigan this season.

Gingefringe · 19/12/2011 16:55

Agree that their merino and cashmere is great but the rabbit/angora/nylon mix is really poor quality - especially when they make tunics in this materials which hangs terribly and stretches around the bum area after a few washes - not a nice look!

Housewife2010 · 19/12/2011 20:34

I've just returned the favourite crew neck - after 2 wears (not full days either) & I hadn't even washed it & it looked shabby & was obviously pilled. Last Christmas Day I wore a new teal ribbon trim merino cardi from them. At the end of the day it looked very tatty. Back it went. I've had problems in the past with a couple of their cashmere mix cardis too. I do tend to avoid the knitwear due to this but every so often I succumb.

I think it's awful, the one thing I never buy from Boden now. I have a couple of kids cardigans from about four years ago and they look like new even though they've been worn to death by three kids and the wool blend seems to be the same as that angora/nylon etc mix they use now. But now I steer well clear of anything with that blend as whatever I've bought subsequently has been a bobbly misshapen rag in a week.

Mind you, the only jumper of my own that didn't bobble was a cashmere polo neck from Oasis - and it went holey instead...

GinLizzy · 20/12/2011 13:27

I havent bought Boden knitwear for about 4 years now because of the poor quality. I've got older knitwear from Hobbs, M&S, John Lewis etc that looks in much better condition. It's shame because the cardis look lovely but experience tells me that they only look lovely for about 3 wears.
