Do I really need a night cream?

DS is now letting me put on makeup in the morning - not a full face party job, but a bit of eye liner, concealer and blush to make me look less like death warmed up more awake.

When I was a young whippersnapper, I just used to fall into bed Xmas Blush but now I'm a bit older I take the makeup off (eye make up remover and a Simple makeup remover wipe) and put on a bit of moisturiser. During the day, I use Olay Complete Care moisturiser which seems to work well for me, but should I be using a more specific night moisturiser - and if so what do I need?

I have normal skin, tending towards sensitive with an occasionally greasy nose & chin.

Anyone help?

Night creams have more intense moisture than day creams;overnight, they joosh your skin up, as well as getting rid of excess moisture. I use origins/Liz Earle and they always make my skin feel soft, smooth, and ten years younger! xxx

Eve Fraser, the facial exercise lady, warns against moisturisers at night as they soften the skin and encourage wrinkles.

Day creams are all about protection, and night creams are for repair/regeneration, so they tend to be heavier.

A dermatologist would probably say you need night cream, but really it's up to you - if it makes your skin feel better, then do it. I personally wouldn't bother unless you are 40+ or have particularly dry skin.

I never bother with anything at night. Still seem to end up with an oily face though.
I used to put Kiehls eye stuff on at night and I'm sure it may have helped a bit.
Honestly, you don't really need anything. But you might feel better if you try. let us know if results are good!

I use a claims might oil which I REALLY rate. I have greasy skin and don't wake up with it greasy. I think there a couple of different ones depending on skin type?

If you remove your makeup at night with soap, you need to moisturise your skin afterwards. Washing dries, and the skin needs moisture. So, yes, you need something. But you could put the same moisturiser as in the morning.

A night cream is heavier and more nutritious than a moisturiser. I would not say that you need a night cream, just because that sounds too strong. But a good night cream or oil will make a positive difference, definitely.

Myself, I sometimes use bio-oil at night. I don't use it during the day because I find my skin oily for long and I don't want that during the day, so I use a normal moisturiser. At bedtime, however, oily doesn't matter much - and bio oil doesn't stain my bed linen. My skin looks better in the morning for it.

It's a load of codswallop.

TBH not much you put on your skin can make any difference.
I am increasingly convinced that skin care is about what you eat, drink, and don't do- such as drink alcohol and smoke.

Night creams tend to be heavier so create more day time shine.

Day creams contain SPFs which you don't need at night.

Having said that, some face creams are more highly rated- I really suggest you read www.beautypedia.com which explores the pseudo-scientific claims behind many products as well as rating those that might help.
I have just bought Clinique Night Repair antioxidant stuff ( green tube and around £36) and it's lovely- but that website gives reasons why it might work.

The science behind good skin is:
1.stop UVA/UVB getting to your skin during the day
stop free radical damage to the cells by using anti-oxidant creams, AND
2. having a diet full of antioxidants which mop up the free radical which cause cells to age/degenerate.

so relly, slap on what you like at night so long as your skin feels and looks okay the next day.
