Beret, yay or nay?

Need a winter hat and am looking on the local version of Ebay. I think I might fancy a beret, maybe this or this Hmm.

TBH I actually really fancy a cloche hat, maybe this but it's odd (as am I) and maybe a bit much for everyday. Also over budget.

Any ideas (regardless of price, just for inspiration) would be much appreciated.

Also like this weird grey thing, should I just do dull black bobble hat.

should I be sectioned? Wink

Coat is black (and a whole other thread), if I replace it then I'll still go with black or possibly grey.

I like a beret. But I think you have to have good haircut that goes with it IYSWIM

HettyAmaretti · 08/12/2011 17:43

Ah, right. Hadn't thought of that. What sort of haircut would that be? Mine is long and layered with layered fringe (brown).

I also have glasses, maybe hat, glasses and fringe is just too much. sounds like a game of guess who!

The glasses I usually wear are a grey version of this butterfly model I do have some black ones but prefer the grey.

I fear I must drop the idea of wearing a hat altogether, I really don't want to grow out teh fringe / be half blind. Both fringe and glasses have appeared since last winter...

I think a baggy beret, like the grey one you linked to, is the best option (biased as I just bought one Grin)

I think it needs a haircut where the hair will come out of the hat and be on show around your face (i.e. it wouldn't work if hair was scraped back) - but sounds like you have that with the fringe and the layering.

It's a slightly 1970s look to me, but that's not a bad thing.

ameliagrey · 08/12/2011 18:20

I've just bought a grey beret from John Lewis for all of £12. I have a side fringe and layered hair which is just above shoulder length. I think it looks okay and DH says it makes me look younger. maybe wear in bed too Grin

I think you need to have hair below the edge of the beret to look okay- last year my hair was shorter and berets looked very odd. Now they look fetching like Bonny and Clyde- if you are old enough to remember that film.

@guess who

I would tuck fringe into hat

And get contact lenses. It's ALL ABOUT THE HAT

HettyAmaretti · 09/12/2011 07:54

But I love me glasses!

hat & glasses too much? I don;t have a beard Wink

Joking about glasses. I reckon tuck your fringe up inside beret

Do you like the way I talk with absolute authority about something that has absolutely NOTHING to do with me? Grin

noddyholder · 09/12/2011 16:58

Love berets

HettyAmaretti · 09/12/2011 18:04

Yes, cyb I do! With you a nd noddy on side I shall go for it. possibly.

So, this one (third photo is a different hat) or this one? I think I'm going with the first one. Or maybe I should just hit the shops, are there many about?

I got a nice one from Accessorize, with a bow on the front. I've had lots of nice comments about it.

moaninlisa · 09/12/2011 19:22

Love berets and I have got mad curls .

tanfastic · 09/12/2011 19:48

I love berets, I have a black one, grey one, fuchsia with flowers on the side and a leopard print one. I think they look cool but as someone else said the right haircut is needed. I went for a jaw length cut once and never wore a hat for two years as it just looked wrong.
