Help me with boots please

I don't go shopping very much, I think I need some help. I'd like some boots - flat, simple ones but nice. Ones that I can wear with dress/tunic/skirt and tights/leggings. Whenever I've tried on any, they just look crap on me. I'm 5"4, short legs, which curve out a bit. Most boots cut into the back of my knee. And they don't stand up straight because of my curvy calves, they bend and crease and look weird. And some are too tight round the calves and create a sort of muffin top effect. What kind of style should I be looking for? Would mid-calf be better than knee high? I think the shoe-type ones are a bit too stylish for me. Are there boots for short people?

Maybe you need mid calf length boots? Try Duo as they have different calf width. They have some stores in major cities where you can try on but you still then have to have them posted to you (annoying but guess the stockroom would have to be ridiculously huge otherwise) or you can order online

Have you tried a boot with a lace up the front and a zip up the side?I have had a mare finding boots to fit my legs as i have chunky calfs and short legs.I loosened off the laces and have double knotted them and just use the zip to put them on.

a few high street stores do boots in a wide fitting calf, including M&S, Evans and Clarks, have a look there.

Thanks for the suggestions. Have found a few I like the look of. It's a shame duo don't give you the height of the boot.

I have a pair of Clarks Orinocco Jazz www.clarks.co.uk/find/producttype-is-boots/product-is-20341833 which are great with leggings and tunics and have elastic piece at back so stretch to fit calf and very smart looking and comfy have also spotted these for wider fittings www.clarks.co.uk/find/department-is-women/technologies-is-widefit/product-is-20347541
Good luck

You could always call up a duo store and ask them if they could measure the boots you like? They have tape measures for measuring calves!!

A friend of mine got Duo to measure a load of boots height, and they did it really accurately. I thought they put that info on the website now though?

Yes just had another look and the height is there for some boots. Thanks for the help. I'm still dithering about what to get. My budget is limited. Is there a big difference between leather and synthetic? Is it a comfort th

Argh iphone, hit send too soon. Is it a comfort thing or a question of how long they'll last?

Leather might be more breathable. I think that a good pair of boots should last years- so if you love them it's a good investment. 6 years ago I procrastinated re a pair of black knee high boots from Russell and Bromley which were over £200. I've worn them every year and they're still lovely so have worked out 'cheaper' than lots of other shoes I've bought! Guess it depends how long you'll like them for. Mine were a classic style so haven't dated (I have bought 2 other pairs of boots since though - in different styles / colours)
