How can I lighten up a semi permanent hair colour?

It's come out too dark (supposed to be medium brown...but is actually VERY dark brown and makes me look hideous!)

Any shampoos that strip it? I don't want to have to put anything too drastic on it! Thanks!

I have heard that Head and Shoulders shampoo can do that but never tried it myself

I heard the same timid.

This always happens to me (use nice and easy med ash brown and look like I've got a black cat sat on my head!!) I just wash my hair a couple of times a day - morning and evening for 2 days and it usually starts to fade pretty quickly after that and then give it a good intensive condition when it's about the right colour. I've also heard head and shoulders is good for stripping colour ( and loosening a tight perm!)

Happens to me all the time and i never learn from it!

Yes Head & Shoulders or Vosene will work, Fairy washing up liquid also does a great job, but will dry your hair out so condition, condition, condition! Wash it everyday, a couple of washes each time. It'll lighten up over the next couple of weeks :)

I'm glad it isn't just me. I did mine today so it would look ok for Christmas. Grin

wash lots with head and shoulders. will lighten semi - perm colour a treat.

The Clairol semis are always mega dark I find. the Light Golden Brown is always more Chestnut.

I've started using the Lightest Golden Brown now, which is still a tad too dark.

I second Head & Shoulders. Or go for a swim in a chlorinated pool.

I used that colour b4 stuff the other day, amazing! Really worked no bleach or ammonia. Really recommend it. Went from black to chestnut brown

what do you use if you don't want to lighten a semi permanent colur?

basically I was duped into buying salan shampoo and I used to use Haed and Shoulders
My hair just does't feel clean Sad but I don't want to go back to H&S as i know it will strip the colur away

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 09/12/2011 07:44

2wwmadness..it actually worked then? I have read about it but it has had mixed reviews and I was worried I'd end up orange!

I had been dying my hair black for years, to match extensions. I'm pg and didn't want the up-keep of it with a baby, so I wanted to go more towards my natural colour. Bought the colour b4 dark version. Pit it on, left for an hour and my hair went light brown! No orange! You can see more of my natural tones and it feels fine, not dry or anything at all. I was very very impressed. I'd stripped it with the bleached route he's go as it went orange and brittle. It really didn't (and I don't work for thm, honest!)
