If you have/had hair extensions please help me!

I love how my hair extensions look after styling. No-one who didn't know me with short hair has guessed that they are extensions and my hair is now long and thick after a lifetime of thin, lank hair.

Unfortunately the hair itself is awful. When I wash it it forms dreadlocks and I lose so much trying to style it. It takes about half an hour to comb it out after washing. I need to hoover my bedroom carpet daily to pick up the hair which falls out. I am constantly having to run my fingers through it to detangle it (and I mean constantly - from a couple of minutes after it has been styled).

Is there anyone out there who can recommend an alternative make of hair which doesn't mat up as above? Mine is Tejune but I am considering Remy.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Are they clip ins ? How often are you washing them ?

cazty1 · 06/12/2011 20:59

Hi Mrs C. No, they last for 10 weeks and were woven in (sewn onto plaits)

I am only washing the extensions once a week due to the stress!

Ok I had those ones before and took them out after 3 weeks I hated them . I would strongly recommend clip ins . You dont have to wash them nearly as often- even if you are styling them differently a lot and they are much easier to work with as you would be washing and styling your own hair then styling and clipping in the extensions . Have you ever had clip ins ?

No, I've not even considered them - thought that they sounded like a lot of hassle and that I'd be rubbish at putting them in. That's food for thought - thanks.

The other solution is to buy "better" hair. There are various hair extension forums and the ladies truly know their stuff regarding brands and how to care for the extension. Definitely google for reviews of any hair brand and make before you purchase it.

I had them many years ago when they first came out. Mine were heat sealed in place. I ended up using fabric conditioner on them. They all fell out after about a month as my hair was so fine they just slipped off!!
Sorry, I'm probably no help

I currently have extensions that are heat sealed, I think remy hair is best but you can also get different grades of hair which also makes a difference, you can get an intense conditioner specifically for extensions, I was advised to use the ones like this instead of branded ie, head and shoulders, pantene, herbal essences etc. as they can contain silicone which is bad for the extensions, I use this once a week. I was also advised to sleep with my hair in a loose plait or pony tail tied at the nape of my neck which helps with tangling caused by friction when moving your head at night.

Mine are due to come out next week, but I'm not having them put back in as I definitely prefer clip ins, there so much easier to look after and they don't shed like the longer lasting ones, like you I am so fed up of hoovering sometimes twice a day to get rid of the trail of hair I leave all over the house.
