WWYD if you really needed a winter coat, bought one in a charity shop and then found out it was real fur?

That's what I did.

Obviously I could see it was furry when I bought it but I assumed it was fake, think the staff did too otherwise I'm sure it would have been more expensive. Paid 25 quid for it.

It's lovely. It's very cold outside and I have no other coat Sad

Fuck.

WWYD?

I would be THRILLED if this happened to me. Is this thread a stealth boast? Grin

Hmm I would wear fur as in the same vein I also eat meat and wear leather...I do have a real fur coat that was my Grandmother's. I now wear it for fancy dress, although it would look fine with skinny jeans etc, but somehow it seems a bit decadent for the nursery run!!

Wear it.

My Mum has a lovely fur coat that was my Grandma's. She is planning to wear it to 2 weddings this winter.

Her coat is very clearly real though, so I am quite interested to see what reaction - if any - it gets.

I would wear it. I have a sheepskin jacket and don't see the difference tbh. It will be much warmer than a fake one too.

Real fur from a charity shop? bet it stinks to high heaven

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 09/12/2011 10:36

Wear it. Say it is fake if anyone asks. I have a real fur hat that was my great grandmother's. I love it and am frequently asked where it came from. No one is judgey. The animal is long dead, the fur is not from an endangered species, there were no qualms generally about fur when my my great granny bought it.

BTW Pmsl at the man in your link. Do you pout like that when out and about in your coat? I would throw a pot of paint at you for that.

Forrestgump · 09/12/2011 23:35

Definatly wear it. Only Eco warriors or those jealous will comment.

Is it very shiny or is that just the light?
You could take it to a fur dealer (if they exist any more) or to a museum to find out for certain what it might be.

It looks beautiful. I lived in a city where winters were really, really cold and a lot of people wore fur out and about. Fur hats too. Nothing keeps you as warm.

A great aunt of mine had a fur coat that she used to wear inside out as she claimed it kept her warmer that way. An uncle, a recent blow-in to the family, once put it right side out for her and got a lot of tutting for his efforts.

Disclaimer -- I have a lovely fitted astrakhan jacket bought originally second hand, and I am an omnivore..
