making own jewellery

Okay, this is going to make me sound like a complete nutter but I'd appreciate any help at all!

I have a jewellery phobia. I know that sounds ridiculous and I'm quite mortified by it but that's how it is. In fact it's not just jewellery - it's also things like keyring chains. The thought of touching chains in particular makes me feel quite queasy and even typing the word makes me feel umcomfortable.

The thing is, I really like fashion and I love these long pendant-style necklaces that are about at the moment - the ones with the quirky little things on them.

I recently bought one with a clock on it and took off the claspy-bit (eurgh- clasps- I hate them) and attached some fine suede instead of a chain. It looks pretty nice but I'd like to have more than one. Something like this or this.

The ones I've linked to above cost a fortune and I'm not happy spending £30 on something I'm going to get my boyfriend to chop up.

So my question is this: does anybody out there know some good websites where I can buy these things and make my own necklaces, without chains? I've seen a few places selling beads but they're all too small - I want something heavier.

Thanks in advance! I know I'm a weirdo but I've learned to live with it.

put jewellery findings pendants into amazon - quite a lot pop up.
this site has lots of beads - some of the wooden and clay ones are big - 10mm so you could have a neclace of large beads.

Hobbycraft.co.uk has pendants for jewellery making - including some steam punk based ones which are a bit more quirky.

I find suede can leave a mark on your neck! You could try ribbon instead, a good haberdashers should have a selection (I have one of these locally but I'm sure there is stuff online as well).

Can you cope with beads round your neck? I've made some necklaces with the clear cord stuff and beads all the way round using some tear drop ones at the front, it was very effective. You could use ribbon to tie at the back instead of a clasp. I've also made complete necklaces using beads and wire but I guess you would find the wire difficult?

Good luck!
