Best facial cleansing wipes?

HugosGoatee · 26/11/2011 10:27

I'm a tad lazy in the evenings and cba using a proper cleansing routine to take off my make-up, so I use cleansing wipes followed by a rich moisturiser.

Anyone got tips for a decent wipe that isn't drying, overly wet, doesn't leave greasy deposits on skin and isn't too harsh?

At the moment I tend to just get whichever one is on offer, but haven't found my holy grail and am wondering if I should be looking further afield than Superdrug.

The Olay one is v cheap at about £1 in supermarket but isn't very moist and is high in alcohol, although it does get rid of make-up. Johnsons sensitive skin ones I also have at the mo, are gentler and moister, nicer to use but leave a greasy deposit and still end up drying my skin Confused

Any tips?

I like the yellow packet Simple ones. Been using them for a while now, try and buy them in 3's when they're on offer!

Gillybobs · 26/11/2011 10:58

IF the sensitive ones are drying your skin you surely need to avoid a together?

They really arent great for your skin at all.

It takes me about 15 seconds to rub on some decent cleanser (I swear by Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish) and another 10 seconds to wipe it off with a muslin cloth. Feels amazing and does wonders for my previously problematic skin.

Cybbo · 26/11/2011 11:01

Yy I agree those wipes dont help your skin at all. They are alright in an emergency but you might as well use a baby wipe

get a half decent creamy cleanser and rub a flannel over your face

I quite like the No7 ones - I usually buy them with the £5 off voucher. I dont use them every single day - only when I cant be bothered to cleanse properly and keep a pack by my bedside - I feel that a bit of a cleanse is better than sleeping in my make-up!

MarieFromStMoritz · 26/11/2011 13:11

MAC. Best in my opinion.

I've used just wipes to clean my skin for years now. I find they clean much better than any non-wash off cleanser (which I can't be bothered to use at night). I like all the Simple wipes, as they tend to be soft and moist enough but not dripping wet. They've never irritated my skin. I find they even get Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation off easily. TBH, I think the idea that wipes aren't good enough by themselves has been put about by manufacturers and the magazines they advertise in, to encourage us to buy two products where one will do. But each to their own. :)

Thanks for responses - I know it's lazy but I just cba faffing with water when I'm ready for bed! I have the Liz Earle cleanser but only use it when I can be bothered, in a treat facial kind of a way.

I'll try the Simple ones, they sound the best bet. I don't wear loads of make-up really, use Doublewear foundation, a little bit of stick Clinique blusher and a dab of EL pale pink eyeshadow, so just need something to get all that off so I can moisturise overnight.

simple or no7 are okay
st ives are rubbish

valiumredhead · 27/11/2011 19:07

I like the Oil of Olay ones in the blue packet - get even waterproof mascara off.

orienteerer · 27/11/2011 19:10

Baby wipes work just as well......much cheaperGrin.

Rudawakening · 27/11/2011 19:22

I use Yes to cucumber wipes or yes to tomato face pads, 98.7% natural ingredients, not cheap but worth it. Although I do cleanse every night so I don't use that many.

I have tried a few and I think simple ones are the best. I buy when on offer. They also get rid of double wear light foundation.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 27/11/2011 19:45

I think the Simple ones are good. But this week the Clinique lady gasped and clutched her throat in horror when I told her I used wipes.

snoozingbeauty · 27/11/2011 20:01

I'm with Gillybobs - don't do it! I think it's a bad habit to get into. Find a cleanser you love and then it will be a pleasure. I like the Liz Earle one too, but my fave is Clean Slate (Mama Mio) www.mamamio.com/uk/face/clean-slate.html/ :)

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/11/2011 20:01

Well, if it wasn't for the wipes I would wake up everyday looking like a spotty panda. I can barely be arsed to use the wipes, nevermind washing, sorry, cleansingWink my face at night in the evening.

Boots Cucumber ones are very nice and cheap. Not the blue ones though.

SweetieDoesIt · 27/11/2011 21:30

Another vote for the simple ones. I have been tempted by different brands over the years but the quality of the towel is often poor so always go back to simple.
I don't use anything else and never had any problems.

maybunny · 27/11/2011 21:41

Yep simple ones too - just the normal ones not the exfoliating ones - this is the first ive heard that they aren't approved of tho! Most of my minimal makeup has worn off by the time it comes to the end of the day anyway!

Flossie69 · 27/11/2011 21:51

I find the Tesco Skin Wisdom ones very good.

shesparkles · 27/11/2011 21:53

If you have one near you, both dd and I have found Aldi's absolutely brilliant. They do normal and sensitive.

They cope well with dd's 3" thick layer of trowelled on foundation Grin

SierraMadre · 27/11/2011 21:59

Orienteer is right - after extensive research (albeit often conducted while drunk too tired to care) I have found that the Simple Baby wipes are just as good as the Simple Face wipes and about a third of the price. Have tried other brands and as long as you're not buying the really cheap ones I can't tell the difference at all.

HugosGoatee · 27/11/2011 22:04

The Olay blue packet ones are really effective but really harsh!

Simple seems like best bet given my slackness. It is wipes or sleep in make-up, basically.

Cheers all ?

Oh how weird I have super sensitive skin and the blue packet is fine for me Grin
