Permanent hair dyes: which REALLY cover grey, look natural and last??

I'm a long tem home hair dyer, I have medium to dark brown hair, but as the years creep by, rather than just using it to boost my colour and help with volume as I have quite fine hair and naturally it is a sort of 'meh' brown, now I've got grey cobwebs on my head!! And I need them covering!

I swim twice a week so what I need is a natural range of colours, long lasting and really does cover grey. The last one I used was Perfect 10 and I found it crappola...

Any one help?

I have dark brown hair with a lot of greyround my hair line. I used the live xxxx bitter chocolate about 3 weeks ago and hasn't faded. I swim once a week.

I find that the permanent colours tend to make your hair all the same colour, which always looks a bit, well, dyed. I use the Casting Creme Gloss 24 wash one, which sort of fades out, but using a colour slightly lighter than my brown hair means that the grey is dyed a sort of lightish brown. So it looks more like having highlights iyswim. Not sure how it works if you swim a lot though.

Been dyeing for years and imo Nice n Easy is unsurpassable. The foam ones are a waste of money.

FWIW I use a light brown (the always come up darker than the box says I find) and pay for professional highlights maybe twice a year to avoid the solid colour effect. When I redye the highlights look a bit darker for a week or two then lighten up again, but I find it the best way to keep some contrast.

The Nice n Easy root touch up kit is also excellent for "colouring in" odd greys
