I am trying to be thrifty and not spend on a whole new outfit for Christmas dinner for first time with both sets of parents at a smart pub/restaurant.
I've got a nice black dress I've hardly worn - its fairly short and with sort of ruffles at the bottom. I was going to wear it with black opaque tights and some black high heels. However its a bit too 'going out' on the top half and I'm worried about being a bit chilly so I'm thinking of putting some kind of top/sweater over it.
I've tried it with little cardigans/bolero type things which I have - but they end up looking a bit naff and I thought that a looseish/off the shoulder jumper might be a bit more edgy. Because of the shortness of the dress it needs to be a shortish top that stops at the waist, top of hips rather than on the hips or below. (I'm 5'7 and legs look ok in black tights)
Do you think that would work and can you point me at some online styles? Colour, glitter or sparkles would be a bonus as its christmas!

She's said it's in a smart pub/restaurant! So definitely allowed to dress up!
