Any "good skin" tips?

Sigh. I used to look all right no matter what I did, but since I've passed my mid-20's I am a total hag if I skimp on sleep. :( Seriously, we're talking full on Picture of Dorian Gray, here.

What can you do to improve your skin's "glow", for lack of a better word, than just the usual water-and-sleep advice? (Though I'll be doing that too! :) )

Do you know of any other good moisturizers, Shine ? I can't afford that one. :)

Aspirin face mask - google it.

Honey face mask - google it.

Oil cleansing method - remove the oil (I use Lush Ultrabland because I'm too lazy to mix my own) with a hot, wet microfibre cloth.

SPF every day. No moisturiser at night.

Perfectil Plus (you can't use this whilst TTC and I really, really miss it).

"Always wear make up ... protects your skin from the daily elements. I have worn make up every day since I was 13.."

Wouldn't a moisturiser with a high SPF do as well? I very rarely wear foundation and only wear tinted moisturiser on work days or when going out and have excellent skin at 53

"Use a decent moisturiser"

I am not at all convinced that expensive moisturisers are any better than cheaper ones. The most expensive I have ever bought is Boots Protect and Perfect, but I have also used Bodyshop vitamin E, Garnier, l'Oreal, Vie, Olay amongst others and, as I said before, I have excellent skin.

In my case I think the biggest factors have been staying out of the sun and not smoking.

Stay out of the sun
No smoking
Very little alcohol
Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish
Good quality serum under moisturiser
Mineral make up

CheerfulYank · 26/11/2011 17:43

I use mineral makeup and don't smoke, so I'm ahead there I suppose. :)

I have Scandinavian skin (that's what I am, heritage wise), really pale and a generally good comlexion, but when I overdo it on wine or little sleep it shows every bit of it the next morning.

"I am COMPLETELY convinced re a moisturiser having to be decent."

I think it must depend on your skin type. I have very untemperamental skin and have not suffered at all from not buying expensive moisturisers.

I think, also, that it could be that I am always scrupulous with my cleansing routine every night. I wouldn't dream of going to bed with make-up on any more than I would go to bed without brushing my teeth or going to the toilet.

Re the coconut oil, do you just rub it in ? I have some but its like a white solidish consistency?.....
