Can anyone recommend one my skin gets all dry and tight feeling, and if it smells nice even better.

I use good old cheapo Astral (blue tub) in the day, with Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster (spr 30) underneath. My skin loves Astral. I've started using almond oil on my face at night and skin is happy with that too.

Wolfiefan · 23/11/2011 14:50

Lush, liz Earle, Eve Lom (Rose lovely) and Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. The really moisturising one at the end!!

shinybaubles · 23/11/2011 14:55

Not heard of Eve Lom - will have to google.
Not sure I can do Astral - I live in Belgium at the moment and buy all online so probably need a big brand ifykwim.

Dermalogica is the bees knees.

If you can pop to a salon and get your skin mapped and they will give you lots of testers to try before you get the big bottles. A little goes a long way.

shinybaubles · 23/11/2011 15:02

I have smelt some Dermalogica and it does smell good.

Avene great for dry skin.
Nuxe is based on essential oils so all smells absolutely delicious . Both v.big in French pharmacies so probably in Belguim too?

steben · 23/11/2011 15:41

I have been using a guinot one which i am really impressed with - it is for sensitive skin but seems to have evened out redness and dryness.

steben · 23/11/2011 15:42

Oh and it smells lovely - lavenderesque but not in a granny way!

ameliagrey · 23/11/2011 15:54

I swear by Clinique- youth surge, super defence, or one of the Redness Solutions range they do.

Also, REN frankinsence repair, Omega 3 serum, and rose oil.

shinybaubles · 23/11/2011 16:34

Thanks for the tips - I have seen Nuxe here everywhere may have to investigate further.
I have to be honest I have had a really bad experience with some clinique face stuff before I put it on and my face literally felt like it was on fire, although maybe things have changed and I should revisit.
Thanks for the tips.
I must admit I was expecting to be pointed in the directions of Lancome, Dior etc.BlushSmile

I had similar with Clinique. Burnt my skin.

How old are you? Do you exfoliate? That helps the creams you do use to sink in better. Also my skin was really dry at one time and I was recommended a Clarins serum to use before my moisturiser. That helped a lot. I think it is call something like Biphase. It's blue.

Lancome Hydrazen is good too.

ReapWhatYouSew · 23/11/2011 17:17

Like Cider I can really recommend the Clarins serum...part of their hydraquench range. I also use the rich moisturiser from same range which is lovely.

shinybaubles · 23/11/2011 17:48

I'm 32 Blush and I do exfoliate - going to visit the Clarins website.

32?? A mere babe in arms.

I'm 47. sigh.

planetpotty · 23/11/2011 18:42

Clinique moisture surge its lovely for like a jelly than a cream. Make up goes on top of it lovely.

flipflop77 · 23/11/2011 20:41

On previous recommendations here, ordered clarins hydraquench from ebay for very dry skin/ cold climates. have been using it for about a week and I swear skin feels softer and much better. Although a wee bit dear, you only have to apply small bit, so hoping 50ml pot will do a while.

RubyrooUK · 23/11/2011 21:28

I have a suggestion that isn't a big brand (but I'm sure it's available online).

I've got incredibly dry skin and have tried the following in the last year with no results: Clinique, Dermalogica, The Sanctuary, By Terry and Ren.

By chance I bought some organic stuff in a chemist (frankly I prefer chemicals) called Sukin and it is incredible.

Before, I felt like I had scales even after each day using night cream, moisturiser, tinted moisturiser and an oil when I got home. Now I still occasionally get the odd scaly moment, but mainly not. I look so much better. People have asked if I am sleeping more (I'm not).

I have now bought the cleanser and night cream as well as the day stuff.

I'm well aware I sound like a loon about this, but it has made such a difference to me. Anyway, just in case you come across it....

Whitecat · 24/11/2011 12:16

Someone on MN suggested Orgaic Surge stuff.

I got two samples from them.
Overnight Sensation Night Cream which is lovely and feels rich and nourishing.

Super-Intensive Daily Moisturiser which I found a bit too greasy. It seemed to stay on top of my skin but maybe my skin wasn't dry enough.

Both smell gorgeous and they are generous with samples so you can use it continuously for a while to check suitability.

noddyholder · 24/11/2011 12:17

Superdrug do a cream called Optimum which I bought on a whim tbh as I usually use expensive stuff. It is £4 for teh day and night and I have been using it a week and my skin has never been better

Whitecat · 24/11/2011 12:26

Organic Surge - not Orgaic

coccyx · 24/11/2011 12:29

love Liz earle

SilkStalkings · 24/11/2011 13:15

Could try avoiding water or toners on your face, using make up wipes instead to cleanse.

mousymouse · 24/11/2011 13:18

weleda skin food.

Truffkin · 24/11/2011 16:20

I've recently found a range by Sisley that I really like and works alongside my other creams for ultra-moisturising. They do several hydrating creams and serums that you could choose from. Otherwise I use Aveeno, Avene and Thalgo products and like them all.
