Chemical Peels

I was at a beauty show on Monday and was advised I needed a deep chemical peel. Blush. Has anyone had one? Do you reccommend it? Or would i be wasting my money and should really just go for botox?

I really wanted one earlier in the year so I went and got a free consultation at a sk:n clinic. I was expecting them to agree with me and book me in, instead they changed my skin care routine and my skin looks loads better for it. Maybe worth going to somewhere like that to see what they say first before going ahead and booking one?

I felt really down after it. I went with a friend who is 6 years older and they told her she needed a mild peel. Louby, thats interesting care to share your routine?

I overheard a lady at the clinic asking about peels, the doctor said that she should start with a mild "weekend" peel and then decide if she wanted something stronger. she sent her off with a ski care package to use in preparation.

I bought the Sanctuary 30 day youth revolution from Boots which is a glycolic peel and serum. I figured it wasn't that expensive if it didn't work!
My skin had been v spotty and red marks from old spots and it feels smoother now and I have no new spots appearing plus the old ones have gone

Instead of having a peel I was told to wash my face with a good quality glycolic acid based wash, the one I use costs about £30. My night time facewash is one they sell in boots by avene called soapless cleanser, it's about £8. Instead of trying to sell me stuff the lady in the clinic was happy with the lancome stuff I use which is just their cleanser, toner, genefique and hydrazen gel. I don't use night cream at the minute because it's too rich for my face. The only other thing they suggested I do which to be honest I only thought about when I went on holiday was to use a factor 50 face moisturiser. I found one for about £20 for quite a big tube and it doesn't feel sun cream like at all, just like a normal moisturiser. I'm on my phone at the minute but if you want a list of all the products I use let me know and I'll send it to you Smile

Oh and I did start having microdermabrasion every couple of months, they won't let me have it at the minute because I'm pregnant but I wouldn't say my skin looks worse without it. The lady told me to wait at least 4 weeks after starting a new skin care routine before booking any treatments like that

louby86 what's the sunblock that you use? And what type of skin do you have? I always struggle to find sun protection, because my skin gets blocked pores very easily and feels very greasy when I put on sun cream. But I have very pale skin, so I should really do a better job of protecting it.

louby86 · 23/11/2011 11:49

I'll go have a look now! I've got combination skin but I get blocked pores easily. I spent years using stuff for oily skin thinking it was helping when all the time under the oil I have really dry skin! I'll be back with the details soon...

It's the sk:n own brand one, it's £15 and they have 3 for 2 offers quite a bit. Just because I don't want people to think I work for sk:n and I honestly don't, avene also do one that's £19.50 but I've never tried that one so don't know how sun cream like if feels

I've had some MD Formulations glycolic peels but only in a salon so I think the % glycolic acid is limited.

I use a combination of MD Formulations and Avene skin care and it's working really well. I love the Continuous Renewal Serum and use it daily.

MD Formulations do a Personal Peel System for home use and they also have Daily Peel Pads. Might be worth a try before going for something Clinical? Try Beauty Bay.

MrsTittleMouse · 23/11/2011 13:47

Thank you, will take a look. :)

fannybanjo · 23/11/2011 13:51

I use Jan Marini bio Glycolic face wash and cream and alternate it with Retin A. It's brilliant stuff and my skin looks great, I'm nearly 37 but lines are decreasing rather than increasing. The lady is doing the hard sell at the Beauty Show - beware.

Alouisee · 23/11/2011 16:20

MD formulations Pedi cream is fantastic, instant baby smooth feet. It is also very effective on ingrowning hairs.

fannybanjo · 23/11/2011 17:44

What is this MD formulations we talk
Of..?!

bubble2bubble · 23/11/2011 19:32

I've been doing NeoStrata home glycolic peels & occasionally using their Glycolic wash as well .
Think this is similar to MD stuff - glycolic seems to be big in the US
Makes your skin look & feel fanastic even if you are getting no sleep & living on coffee

Buddhastic - I sought advice on lasering a blue vein under my eye at a beauty clinic and was advised after one of those intense UV photos that shows how CRAP your skin is to have a series of chemical peels. (And she couldnt laser the vein !)

But I really didnt want that- to make my skin more senstive, even for a short period of time. And the before and after shots she showed me wern't that convincing. I left the salon feeling V low.

They seem V expensive to me for the level of results you get. I reckon a series of facials once a month woudl be better for my skin in the long term.

CakeandRoses · 25/01/2012 10:30

cyb was the damage in the UV pics due to the actual peels or sun damage from not protecting properly it afterwards? and is it temporary damage or perm?
