Boots for the thin of calf...

Was just wondering if anyone had good recommendations for knee length black boots with a heel? Any of the ones I've tried so far have been massive around the calf :(

Would like them to wear with tights and dresses. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :o

ooh watching with interest (although I want flats) Smile

I have pretty scrawny calves and the only place (other than Duo and I'm not a fan of their quality or inconsistent sizing) that I've found boots to fit is LK Bennett. Their stretch suede ones fit me really well (though unfortunately all their other boots are far too big). They're not cheap but the quality is really good and they last.

I have these in black and brown from last year and the year before, I've worn them loads and they're still going strong and in really good condition.

realhousewifeoffitzrovia · 22/11/2011 20:33

Ugh. I feel your pain. Duo have boots for slim calves as well as boots for more developed calves, but I don't want to be limited to their selection. I have had the cobbler narrow the calves on a pair of too-wide boots. It cost a fair bit - 40 quid IIRC. I have a pair of cool boots that I need to bring to the cobbler but I'm thinking of having him add buckles to the top so that I can just "cinch" the calves. Hope someone else has some good advice!

Sayjay, the best I've found for flats are these from Hobbs. I don't love the style and they're not completely snug fitting on the calf but they're the only ones I've tried that don't look like wellies on me and they are really comfy.

I have the same frustration every year - I just don't understand why boots can't be made in a variety of calf widths - even if just S, M and L. If clothes are made in different sizes why can't boots be? We don't all have the same size legs any more than we all have the same size waists. I would love to be able to choose boots by the styles I like rather than having to settle for the only ones that fit (or nearly fit).

Hope someone else has some good ideas...

Thanks Optimism Smile

I too have this problem. I have found some in Dune in the past that have fit (flats always seem ok) but then this year I bought some lovely heeled suede ones that looked like wellies. Consistency would be nice :)

YossarianLives · 22/11/2011 21:01

Thanks for all the links so far! I will definitely check them out. Not sure what shops I have near to try them on...I see a pair that "looks" narrow on the calf but it's like putting my leg into a bucket! I have some brown flat boots from Boden but would really love some dressy heeled boots to wear over winter!

YossarianLives, when I was buying my 2nd pair they were showing out of stock on the website but I clicked the 'contact me when available' button and someone called me the next day having found a pair in one of their stores which they then posted to me. If they're the sort of thing you're looking for I'd really recommend them - I clearly liked them enough (or am sad enough, or maybe just lacking in choice enough!) to buy them in two different colours!

partyhats · 22/11/2011 21:19

I have the same problem with scawny legs. I recently had some leather boots that were too wide made narrower at a cobblers. It was suggested here on MN. It has worked really well and only cost £7. Mine were a pull on style but the man said it is easier to do with zipped boots.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 22/11/2011 21:31

partyhats - which cobblers did you use (chain or independant)? That sounds like a great idea but I assumed it would cost almost as much as the boots as I needed a zip replacing at a popular chain cobblers and it was about £40 so didn't bother.

partyhats · 22/11/2011 21:51

HeeHee - It was an independant, they are always better for repairs I find.

partyhats · 22/11/2011 21:52

I must admit, I was quite surprised when he said £7, I thought it would be a lot more, and he did such a good job, you really can't tell at all.

MrsMcEnroe · 22/11/2011 21:59

I have skinny legs and I bought some beautiful leather heeled boots in Russell & Bromley this autumn which are fab... mine are brown but there were definitely some black ones in there too.

They are the only boots I've ever bought that actually fit me round the calf and don't flap. They are not super-tight but they look fine when I wear skirts, but allow a bit of room for skinny jeans to be tucked in. I am chuffed to bits with them. (My calves are 30-31cm in circumference if that helps).

They're not cheap mind .... I'm still reeling with shock ....

I could have bought pretty much everything in the damn place actually, it was all gorgeous!

partyhats · 22/11/2011 22:04

They sould nice mrsMcenroe, wish R&B had a website..

partyhats · 22/11/2011 22:05

sound nice

YossarianLives · 25/11/2011 17:45

Was walking past Kurt Geiger earlier and decided to pop in for a look. Saw these pretty and had to buy. Said £160 on tag, when I went to pay they'd been reduced to £99! Clearly it was meant to be Grin
