I would never wear jeans with this brand name - it would make me feel v old.

dexter73 · 21/11/2011 21:33

They are old lady jeans - avoid at all costs.

natashakaplinkyplop · 21/11/2011 22:33

I had some in my basket on amazon today, for my 58 year old mum.

hoarsewhisperer · 22/11/2011 15:26

i have a couple of pairs of these. Got them while whiling away time at an airport, tried them on and they fitted fabulously - i.e. they have stretch in them, they have a waist and they hold you in. i got 2 pairs because they were half price and i love them and have had lots of compliments wearing them. DO they make me look thin? ha ha ha...not really, but i'd say they make me look a bit more toned in the bum department!

TracyK · 22/11/2011 19:12

Mine have arrived. still don't think they are worth even 50 quid that I paid. think I'll send them back. They are very stretchy and comfy though. They do lift your bum and the size 14 fitted fine for me.
might try them on tomorrow with some more things, maybe some biker boots. Might trendy them up a bit??

higgle · 22/11/2011 19:34

Well I'm only 3 years younger than natashakaplinkyplop's mother and I would not be seen dead in them - vile and frumpy.

polyhymnia · 22/11/2011 22:31

Have you actually ever tried them in RL Higgle or are you put off by the name and/or online images?

dexter73 · 22/11/2011 22:36

I saw them in John Lewis and they looked awful. Also they were being looked at by 2 old white-haired ladies . The name and online pics don't help their cause though!

polyhymnia · 22/11/2011 22:39

In what way did they look awful?? Too baggy or what (am large but legs aren't so hate too- baggy legs on jeans)?

dexter73 · 22/11/2011 22:45

The material was thin, weird colour, they were very high-waisted and they just looked so old-fashioned. No redeeming features at all.

TracyK · 23/11/2011 10:39

I got the black pair and the colour was fine. Not too high waisted on me - but I have a very long torso anyway - so nothing is v high on me.

I think maybe they were 'just' the right length - which made them look wrong and mumsy - but maybe tucked into biker ankle boots???

They are v stretchy - am worried they would lose their stretch though. I'm thinking though that I could spend £50 on something nicer, more flattering.

If they didn't have that awful name - might not put people off so much??

polyhymnia · 23/11/2011 10:50

Agree on name - they were originally launched for the American market - but don't know why that name would go down any better there? Does absolutely make you think, whatever age you are, that it must be aimed at an older age group!

Personally I have no problem with high waists - I'm tall as well as being large, with a long body as well as long legs, and loathe 'muffin' efect, which i also find uncomfortable.

dexter73 · 23/11/2011 16:57

I don't like that they have such a high waist as it makes my arse look huge. I am better off with jeans that come a couple of inches below my belly button not above it! I don't get a muffin thanks to all the sit-ups!

wolfhound · 24/11/2011 08:20

Probably when I was 25, I would have agreed with a lot of the criticism, but at (nearly) 41 I am probably approaching the 'old' bracket! Really can't see why the name bothers people. On the label it just says NYDY which I thought was something to do with New York for a long time, have only recently found out what it stands for.

They come in different styles, some more high-waist than others. The high waist really works for my post-baby tummy as it holds it all in, giving a smoother shape and more comfort than low-rise styles.

The 'stretchiness' means it holds you in, and gives a better silhouette. I have machine-washed mine (at 30 degrees) endless times, and the stretchiness hasn't gone. I don't tumble dry them though.

I think if you've got a slim well-toned figure, don't bother with them. But if your body needs a bit of help, they are brilliant. I have been losing weight and now mine are too big for me and I feel quite disappointed! Have bought a new pair in my new size (I am not thin/flat-stomached enough yet for my old jeans...)

MaryWiselyornotatall · 24/11/2011 09:55

I have a pair of these which I bought in desperation, but they have been an expensive disappointment. All the pretend studs came apart in the wash, leaving nasty bits of plastic behind - on my behind. Now all the lycra around the crotch area has gone all wrinkly and baggy, so it looks as though I have a pair of sizeable testicles nestling within. Not at all the svelte look I was aiming at.

higgle · 24/11/2011 18:18
  1. The name
  2. The cut is very old fashioned and ultra high waisted
  3. fabric looks cheap and ghastly
  4. I want nicely made and constructed/cut jeans with a little bit of stretch to make them comfortable, not a tight very stretchy garment.
