Shampoo/conditioner for 18mth old with very tight curls

Hi,

DS has very very tight curly hair, and I cannot find a shampoo that keeps it from getting knotted that doesn't contain anything harsh. Currently using Johnsons baby shampoo (massive bottle I bought before he was born Blush , but have tried halo and horns too. I don't like to wash his hair every day but when he wakes up his hair can be quite dry and knotted as he has slept on his back. His hair is past his shoulders when straight.

Any suggestions? TIA

DD is now 4 and she has masses of ringlets/tight curls (fab mixed race style hair). It's been a learning curve for us all - her GM has had to learn that her hair is not 'black' and we've all had to learn how to deal with it. If it's not handled properly it will go to dreadlocks pretty quickly.

This is what we do:
Use an ultra gentle baby shampoo. Shampoo very gently max once a week.
Use the richest conditioner you can find and leave it on for ages if possible. Comb all the knots out with the conditioner on.
Rinse well.

We then use some Body SHop grapeseed oil stuff and some green olive oil stuff from her GM.

We tie it up all week at nursery - usually we spray it and recently DP has been brushing it each morning - as it's got longer this seems to be more on the cards - I guess she is getting used to it too.

She did have it cut recently and that makes a huge difference to the knots too - drastically reduced since the drier ends have gone.

all 3 of my babies are bi racial with quite fine wavy/curly hair. though my youngest son has the curliest hairand ive allowed it to grow out. i wash all theyre hair with 'kids Naked 2 in 1 shampoo' i get it from boots, its an all natural ingrediant shampoo comes in different yummy scents (banana custards the best) then after ive dried theie hair i rub alittle bit of 'dark and lovely beautiful begginings softening oil moisturizer' all over their hair. sometimes ive put pure sweet alomd oil from holland and barrett. curly q is supposed to be a great make for kids with curly hair aswell. you can get it on amazon.co.uk their 'curly q milkshake' is supposed to be good.

almond oil

thanks for replies. I have tried that NAked 2in1 banana but found that to be drying for some reason, have used baby oil on too, just rubbed it on my hands then worked through, will try almond oil though. (have also used frizz ease but only for special occasions Blush).

I don't use any shampoo, just herbal essences conditioner - the one in the orange bottle! To keep it extra 'sleek' i add a little bit of conditioner after rinsing and brush it through with a large paddle brush - for some reason this seems to work better than wide combs etc

We don't use shampoo at all Blush I use Johnson's baby conditioner to 'wash' DD1's hair then condition it with Aussie miracle conditioner, rinse and lightly towel dry before adding a bit of Moroccan oil and then brushing it through with a tangle teaser. We never brush DD1's hair dry as it frizzes and snaps very easily. Every morning we have tangled knotted bedhead so I spray it with detangling spray and brush it wet.

you shouldnt use adult products on such a young childs head, ingrediants are too strong/rich thats why there are seperate products for children

ThatsNotMyBabyBelly · 22/11/2011 12:13

I use Bert's Bees baby shampoo and loreal leave in kids detangler

valiumredhead · 22/11/2011 15:46

I used to leave what ever conditioner I used on ds in his hair and not rinse it out - worked great when he had tight curls.

miss so advertisers would have you believe, have you ever washed your hair in Johnson's? Shock It is so harsh Grin
