What style for pathetic fine hair?

Am lost in style limbo in every conceivable way - still carrying post baby weight (and then some...) so no clothes to fit and feel good, hair is thinning and straggly - was always fine but also suffering after arrival of ds. I have little money due to being on maternity leave but think a hair cut would go some way to making me feel better. Are there any experts on what to do with fine, thin around to help? At the moment it's just about shoulder length and I just tie it up all the time. I can't afford colour as well as cut. TIA.

Right, I've taken action and phoned my favourite salon (from when I actually had money) and they do have a training night! This week! So that'll sort the colour out - now to decide what colour highlights...hmm. Will have to get it cut after that. Morag - Ive also tried treatments in the past and not convinced they've ever worked so hope the optical illusion will be enough.

I have fine hair, but found that a bob made me look a bit of a pin-head, so I've gone for long flicky layers.

I use a Babyliss Big Hair styler and a blob of mousse to give it a bit of oomph.
