Please help me find a GENTLE hairdresser in London

I have long, nearly waist length hair. I hate getting my hair trimmed, styled or blowdried these days. The reason is that my scalp gets very sore, and the problem's become worse over the years. I always feel like the hairdresser is pulling my hair too strongly and am constantly wincing in pain. I get tears in my eyes and my face and ears turn red! I used to have a hairdresser a couple of years ago who was really gentle, but then he changed professions. I would be very, very grateful for any suggestions on hairdressers in London (central, east or west).

Thanks Bran. Greenwich isn't too near but am willing to make the trek. Will await other suggestions as well. These are the sorts of things one does miss. I know if I move to another country, which is a possibility, I will miss my Waitrose deliveries (gosh that does sound spoiled).

I'd recommend malashi, by london bridge. Very nice and good staff, and gentle :)

Are Sweeney good then Bran. I'm near there and looking for a good hairdresser. How pricey are they?

ameliagrey · 15/11/2011 21:20

Glass hair salon- round corner from Barbican tube.
Reasonably priced. Good cutting.

Ask for Fernando, Renee or Peter.

They have a website- but it's pretty useless!

The Patrick Ludde salon in Mayfair has a long-hair clinic that uses the George Michael long-hair method

You have to book in for the long-hair specialist. I have heard good things about the whole experience from UK women on the longhaircommunity.

Sam Thomas at Hebe on the Strand is lovely, and so gentle. And if you look like you're having a rough day I find the other staff are really good at cooing "oh it looks LOVELY, aren't you lucky?!" to cheer you up

Thanks so much everyone, I'm tempted to try out all the suggestions. PastGrace, I have had my cut at Hebe several years ago by a young woman whose name I can't remember. She was good, but then I moved and forgot about Hebe, thanks for reminding me.

not sure if they had multiple branches when you went - as far as I'm aware they just have the one now, it's number 80ish - just down from the Savoy

The reason I mentioned Glass is that my best friend used to own itSmile
Not a hairdresser though- a business woman.

I followed it from the day she found the premises to choosing the staff- so I know what I am recommending. Smile
