Covering up Rosacea?

BornSicky · 14/11/2011 22:00

Under a lot of pressure at the moment and the rosacea on my face has totally erupted. Peeling, flaky skin, redness and it's all over my cheeks and nose and eyebrows.

I've got some rosex (which is crap) and been using a Simple deep moisturiser that has a limited effect.

How do I make my face look better without looking greasy?

Big sympathies. My rosacea flared up under stress recently too. I found Avene's skin recovery cream on the spots/rash plus the daily light SPF20 moisturiser calmed things down within a few days. I use Bare Escentuals foundation which covered the redness incredibly well and didn't seem to make it worse.

I just get the redness and use Kalme products from the skin shop www.skinshop.co.uk I use the cleanser and undercoat both totally fab for my skin can't believe the difference. Also use Clinique redness solution foundation (tho cleanser in that range didnt work for me).

I suffer with this. I have been religiously using Liz Earle stuff from QVC that my mum bought me and it is working. But on my days when I do use make up I wear Clinque minerals foundation, bloody brilliant and not itchy. Then as soon as I have finished seeing the rest of the human race I take off all traces of make up with simple wipes or morrissons wipes. The only ones that don't burn iykwim. Totally recommend the Liz Earle stuff though it has turned my skin around.

Born. I suffer too. I found bare minerals made it worse and itchy (contains bismuth that's why). I used to love lily lolo but after years of using now makes my face flaky. Can't use normal foundation as it makes my very red face even more red.

So I found Inika mineral foundation seems to work. Not itchy excellent coverage (no need for seperate concealer) and no flaking.

I use Pai products which don't irritate cause spots and stops the flaking. I used to love Liz Earle but my skin is too sensitive for that now Sad. Pai product available online (can't link on phone).

I also oil cleanse but with olive oil or grapeseed oil only. Helps with flaking and gives comfort to my skin.

Rosex stuff made mine worse and caused permanent redness Sad. Try and get your GP to give you Finacea instead. It is amazing! And is proven to keep working whereas Rosex etc only works for a limited time. Your GP may not be familiar with Finacea. It's acne treatment(a cream) but as an off label use for rosacea which is widely recognised. I recommend giving it a go. Effects kick in within a week.

One tip if you do try Finacea. I find it's sore if I don't apply my Pai moisturiser first and then Finacea after. The instructions says not to but it's stings otherwise and I find it takes down the redness much better this way.

Keep soap and shampoo away from your face.

Sorry this had turned out to be long...

Runny. The kalme products you mention do they make a difference for severe redness?? Am vvvv red and always hoping for a bit of a miracle Smile

Hi - I suffer too and know what you mean about flare ups in times of stress. I am pregnant at the moment which seems to make mine far worse too.

I would second the use of Liz Earle too, I stopped using it for a while, but I am back on it and have really noticed a difference. I just use the cleanse and polish and then the dry/sensitive moisturiser.

One tip I have recently discovered re coverage seems to have worked a treat for me. I use Estee Lauder Double wear foundation as a base and then use Bare Minerals foundation as a powder, so in fact using two lots of foundation. I have found this really has staying power, and the Double Wear helps stop the flaky effect that BM can give me.

Good luck though, I know exactly how you feel.

thank you all!

so many ideas. I'll ask about the Finacea, as the rosex does indeed make it worse.

I too have sensitive skin, so I guess I'll start experimenting. Clinique has always been ok with my skin, so might start there.

I just want to look normal! I look harried and sick atm and it's very depressing.

Skandi1 I wouldnt say I was extremely red unless it was a windy or sunny day, or I'd had alcohol or chilli (then I would be like a beetroot!). But I would always have had red nose and cheeks on waking and that would stay all day, in fact when I think about it it was pretty bad. I find Kalme really works for me, within a few days I couldn't believe the difference, if I have a facial and the put another cream on me the redness immediately comes back. I can't recommend it highly enough. I use the cleanser, undercoat and night cream - I have tried the suncream but it makes my face v white (good for a teenage goth ;) so I use a different sun screen.

I am using sudocrem on mine which currently is all over my chin (necessity being the mother of invention and all that). Totally amazed at the results!

Mine is exacerbated by shampoo, conditioner and facial cleanser. Now I use Green People Aloe Vera hair care stuff ( online or health shops) and Faith in Nature Gentle cleanser. I can get away with Clinique make-up but anything else brings out the redness and bumps really quickly. It took me years and a few trips to a dermatologist before I realized that Simple products and expensive shampoos were causing the problem.
