I like the first one best (the £165 one Blush), the antique style zari work looks lovely. but then again I don't like net sarees, (something about the feel of them makes me itch)

motherinferior · 13/11/2011 20:02

It's nice but not my favourite.

SirToffeeDoris · 13/11/2011 20:02

I have never worn one, but the one you have linked to looks completely beautiful. I also really like the colours in 1144ssw (described as copper/purple)

Bollywoodhollywood · 13/11/2011 20:07

Thanks guys

I think it depends on your age & how foreward thinking your family are, sorry but I married into an asian family years ago & they were very straight laced

Bollywoodhollywood · 13/11/2011 21:14

My family don't really care what I wear. My dad is an Indian but My mum is English, it's for My cousins wedding, I have to wear something Indian because My cousin is having a traditional wedding, otherwise I would have just wore a nice dress. I am 30. I quite like the £165 one to. I have never wore a saree before, but somehow Im getting duped into wearing one, not sure I will be able to walk in it.

ok then well if thats the case then the world is your oyster, personally I think the first one others mentioned is too traditional looking (even though its quite sheer) others on there look lovely & the one in your op is modern yet stylish at the same time

btw sarees are the most elegant, beautiful garments in the world to wear, feel like a princess in them (coming from not a girly girl)

peeriebear · 13/11/2011 22:05

That link has so many gorgeous sarees! I covet the fabrics. I do agree that the first one is fab.

Specialbrew · 13/11/2011 22:21

I'm half Indian too. I've worn sari's quite a lot, and been to quite a few weddings. I think it is lovely, but not as 'weddingy' as the first. I'd suggest speaking to your cousin to find out what kind of wedding it is and if that type (by that I mean quite sheer) of sari is suitable as some families can be quite conservative. Also if you've not worn a sari much, you might want to practice how you'd like to wear it. You will probably need to wear it like the model ie quite low on the hips with your belly button showing to make it look right. And if you are going to wear it like that, unless you have quite a flat stomach, again it might not lot look quite right! Also, even though the blouse is ready made you will probably need to get it altered as they tend to be huge! Good luck!

partyhats · 13/11/2011 22:23

the first one is lovely, also like 244VS £118.

MooMinCow · 13/11/2011 23:07

if you've never worn a sari before, could you not try a salwar kameez (tunic & bottoms) or lengha/chania choli (full length skirt/top) instead? way more comfy than sari (particularly if you're not used to one), but still traditional enough. nothing worse than wearing something you don't feel 100% comfortable and confident in!

Also, as someone else said, I don't know how traditional/religious the wedding ceremony is, but the original sari you linked to has black detailing, and some traditionalists believe it's an inauspicious colour to wear. Best to double check first.

bollywoodhollywood · 14/11/2011 07:49

Yes I see what you mean about tradition, I think I might need to go to an Indian shop and try some stuff, maybe a salwar kameez. I do have a flat stomach, so I could carry that saree of, Im also 5'7.

If you're tall and slim I think a fishtail lengha would look lovely as the skirt is not so flared. The skirts Normally can be worn low on the hips with a shorter blouse to show off a flat stomach. This kinda style

Depending on the formality of the event, I'd say a sari is the way to go. Generally, darker colours are more formal than lighter colours.

Check out www.kareenascloset.co.uk/, they hire out a nice range of saris, and even filter which ones are right for each type of event (i.e. wedding, social).
