ColourB4 - didn't really work!

I've been dying my hair dark brown (but it's pretty much black) for 18 months. I hadn't been dying my hair before that. It's too dark, and because my natural hair colour is dark blonde it's too hard to keep up with. It needs redoing every 3 weeks and because I can't wear my glasses I always end up missing a bit!

I used ColourB4 for Dark Hair last night, followed the instructions to the letter. It's taken the colour half out of my crown, it's gone quite a nice light brown/auburny colour which I like, but the other 3/4s of my hair are still black :(. I very rarely use hair straighteners, which definitely aren't near 230c, only my hair dryer which is not that hot. Do you think it would be worth trying the ColourB4 again or just admitting defeat and dying my hair the same colour again? :(

You need to do colourb4 again - pref wrapping your head in clingfilm with a towel over the top to keep it nice and warm as that helps it work. You may even need to do it again after that. As you've been recolouring every 3 weeks, there will be an awful lot of colour in there to shift

That's true. I redo it kind of every 4 weeks, not 3 weeks, but it needs redoing after 3 iyswim :). I used cling film and a towel. Right, I shall buy another box today, clingfilm, towel and will sit next to our huge radiator in the lounge for the duration.

Tbh, I think it's probably a profesional job to get a serious buiild up of very dark colour out of the ends. I've used colour B4 and although it was decent, it didn't remove not very built up red from my hair.

argh, op

I used it and my hair went a lovely shade of bright yellow.

If you re-cover use a warm dark brown. It will take off the harshness of being darker and won't leave your roots khaki.

Your other option is to use a pre-lightner on the darkest bits first and bring the hair up a couple of shades before doing the roots. The hair won't reoxidise then. If you want to remain brown go for a warm toned one. Also make sure it's mid brown as bleached hair grabs the colour. I think L'oreal Recital Chestnut is a good colour for this. It never turns black. It also has enough warmth in it to counter the green effect if your hair goes blonde when prelightened. What colour do you want to be?

ChuffMuffin · 13/11/2011 16:46

Just my natural colour really! I've bought another box of ColourB4, going to try it now, and sit with clingfilm on against my big radiator for the entire hour. If it again doesn't shift any of the colour I'll have to accept defeat I guess. I tried to check the box of what I used before for the silicone content but can't find it.

Scott has posted here with regards to someone whos' been using Nice and Easy and XXL Live black and said there's no reason why it shouldn't come out, so I'm off to try again! :)

At the moment I'm rocking blonde roots, an auburn crown and black hair. I look a sight! Haha.

Update! Have stripped it again.. the black is gone! Grin. I've got a really nice warm auburny brown colour now.. it looks like I've had lowlights put in it, totally doesn't look like a hair disaster. Ends are still a lot darker than the top but it's gradual, I like it. Apart from the fried scalp I think it's done quite well.

Going to leave my hair for a week and use tea tree shampoo every day, then try stripping it one final time, see if I can get the ends any lighter. I'm guessing though this dye has stained my hair cuticles red.

Hurrah on getting rid of the black

ChuffMuffin · 13/11/2011 22:33

Tell me about it, I didn't appreciate how draining the black was until I saw this colour.
